This place is great! I needed a place to go and unwind after a friend's funeral and this was the best place to decompress. The living space is very roomy and the garden was a delight day and night time. Our host, Linda Forbes was a delight to have around. Very friendly but not intrusive. She looked in on us to see if we had everything we needed but mostly we were on our own. It is out of the way from town, which is what I wanted and so you need a car. But if you want to get out and walk down toward the water you can do that too. I highly recommend this to anyone going to Sitka. My friend and I could see a Girls' spa week there and we'd fill the house.

We stayed at the Baranof for three nights. The accommodation is two bedrooms, one bathroom and a large living area, all on the lower level. The owners live upstairs so you have a lot of privacy and quiet. It's several miles out of "city center" Sitka so a car is a must. The owner runs an art and gift gallery in Sitka and has many artworks on the walls. The furniture is very nice and comfortable. There is a small refrigerator, microwave and coffee pot so you have the essentials. Juice, coffee, tea, fruit and cereal are provided. The only problem someone might have with this place is that there is a long flight of stairs to get from the driveway to the entrance for the lower level. Getting big bags up and down could be tricky in the rain. This place was great for us..Be advised, there is no sign for the B&B.

There are two bedrooms and a large living room in this lovely bed and breakfast surrounded by trees and bald eagles. The rooms are comfortable, with paintings by local artists on the walls. Breakfast is fruit and yogurt and granola, with juice and excellent local coffee that the owner brews for you before you awake. The owner is delightful--has a fascinating history and will point you in the direction of good restaurants and coffeehouses and landmarks. She offers a large selection of DVDs and videotapes, as well as a basket of paperbacks and numerous guidebooks and copies of Alaska Magazine.

It's to be noted that this B&B is at least a two-mile walk from downtown Sitka, and longer to the Alaska Raptor Center and surrounding park. There are no bicycles, so consider renting them downtown during your stay, or renting a car. This will allow you to get out to the wilderness areas on either side of town, including the Theobroma Chocolate Factory.

One hiking trail runs just beyond this B&B, and connects to others. Be aware of the presence of bears; however, we were disappointed that we didn't see any!
