SCAM!!! False Advertising!! Don’t Stay!

1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 16 Jun 2024via mobile
BIG SCAM AND FALSE ADVERTISING ON WEBSITE! Don’t stay here.

I’d give less than 1 star if it was allowable!

April 7th we used Agoda to book an 11 night stay at the GrandVrio Resort Saipan. Before booking we looked at the accommodations on Agoda AND on the company’s website.

What a scam! There are 4 languages and each translation shows different information. It also shows different times of operation for it amenities. However none is consistent and none of it is truly accurate.

-No BBQ on the terrace with Polynesian dancers for $48.00 according to the website.
-No pool bar
-Deep pool was closed our entire visit
-Kids pool is NOT covered
-Umbrellas were only on the deep pool that was closed, none by the open pools
-Kids pool mushroom fountain, water bucket, and water squirters are non functional
-Big main pool fountain does not work
-Lifeguard is NOT an active lifeguard. Sat under the porch of the chapel on his phone the entire time
-Beach tape on the sand said the beach was closed and in the red zone yet the beach really wasn’t as we went over to the next hotel and they shared it was not closed.

We addressed all of this with the hotel. They said it’s amenities haven’t been available since Covid. They mentioned we should go to the Crown Plaza for dinner and a BBQ with dances which was over $20 per person more.

We asked about the pool hours. They said it was 10-5 which didn’t match any of the hours online. We shared that without coverings and umbrellas it’s scorching hot in the middle of the day, we requested to be able to swim at evening or night and it wasn’t allowed. We asked about the pool bar and was told it hasn’t been operational since Covid.

Convenience store is open 8-1. Again not like the website. Who needs a store at 8am on vacation? When it was needed it was not open.

Excuses the whole time. This place is an epic scam. It’s outdated and a waste of our money. With booking in advance we could have stayed somewhere that actually has all the amenities mentioned for the same price like the Crown Plaza. It’s a shame we didn’t.

We asked Agoda and requested to end our stay after 5 days of this. Agoda said “We acknowledge your frustration and appreciate your patience. We understand that this service experience did not meet your expectations, and for that, please accept our sincerest apologies. As a gesture of goodwill, we are offering you a compensation of USD 238.39, credited to your account as AgodaCash. Please note, this is the maximum amount we are capable of offering.” They said they could not help us leave the Grandvrio and we would have to stay or pay out of pocket to go somewhere else.

On day 7 we had enough. We spent so much money leaving what was supposed to be a resort, to do the things we came to do. Things we couldn’t use the Agoda cash for. Enough was enough. We again contacted Agoda and the hotel manager and asked for them to end our stay, refund the remaining amount, and find a hotel that had the amenities at the same comparable price. Grandvrio agreed to end the stay early, refund the amount, and helped us find a place but it was not the same price. We ended up having to pay another hotel several hundred dollars more instead of booking at a discounted rate in early April when we initially booked our vacation.

Do not stay here. Consider the Crown Plaza. It felt like our vacation finally started when we got there. It’s updated, not old, dark, and dingy. The pools and kids areas are amazing! And best of all, it has all the amenities stated.

I came to Saipan with my family for the first time, and the kids really like it, and there are a lot of kids programs and things to enjoy, so let's make good memories. I think it would be great to bring my parents next time. I will also have a good time with you

It’s located right at the centre.
    Close to almost everything.
5mins walk to the Casino and 1min walk to the supermarket.
Hotel itself is very old in a Japanese style (meaning small toilet)
Balcony offers good view as it is located right next to the beach.

Stayed at the Grandvrio a night on my recent trip to Saipan. I was there 2 weeks and stayed at Hyatt but when I had to extend, Hyatt could not accommodate me the last night. The hotel is one of the largest on Saipan and grounds were really nice. Check in was easy and I was given a room in Taga tower which is the nicer rooms. Loved my room. It was spacious and view was amazing. The only problem I had was the bed and pillows were typical Japanese style which were hard and uncomfortable. Otherwise, great stay.

The hotel is a little old. But the location is very prefect, maybe the center of the west coast. It was very convient for us to go north or south .
We were so lucky to have a high-floor room. So we saw a really good view .(we saw sunset everyday lol)

Heed the other reviews. I just stayed here for two nights via a travel agent booking. Even she tried to discourage my staying here, but it was the only hotel with availability during the time I wanted to travel.

The room itself was in need of a very serious renovation. The bathroom was disgusting. I'll see if I can post pics. Yhe grout had not been properly cleaned in ages. The soap dishes had soap remnants from past guests. The toilwt room had a small sink that had remnants of something caught in the the drain. The view of the ocean was fine, but in no way made up for the poor care of the room. The pillows were semi-soft on top but hard on the bottom due to how it was sewn.

Front desk staff would not let me check in before 3pm even though I just arrived on the only Guam to Saipan flight at 8am. They wanted to charge me for an early check in even if the room was available at 1pm, which in the years I worked in the hotel industry I had never seen. Late check out charge, yes. Early check in charge, no. Sadly, I had prepaid with my travel agent and couldn't go elsewhere due to lack of rooms.

For a room where they charge over $215 per night, they should be doing better.

Stay at a better hotel if you can. The price charged doesn't match the quality of hotel.
