Japan Chain Hotel

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 17 Mar 2019
Stayed at the Grandvrio a night on my recent trip to Saipan. I was there 2 weeks and stayed at Hyatt but when I had to extend, Hyatt could not accommodate me the last night. The hotel is one of the largest on Saipan and grounds were really nice. Check in was easy and I was given a room in Taga tower which is the nicer rooms. Loved my room. It was spacious and view was amazing. The only problem I had was the bed and pillows were typical Japanese style which were hard and uncomfortable. Otherwise, great stay.

The hotel is a little old. But the location is very prefect, maybe the center of the west coast. It was very convient for us to go north or south .
We were so lucky to have a high-floor room. So we saw a really good view .(we saw sunset everyday lol)

Heed the other reviews. I just stayed here for two nights via a travel agent booking. Even she tried to discourage my staying here, but it was the only hotel with availability during the time I wanted to travel.

The room itself was in need of a very serious renovation. The bathroom was disgusting. I'll see if I can post pics. Yhe grout had not been properly cleaned in ages. The soap dishes had soap remnants from past guests. The toilwt room had a small sink that had remnants of something caught in the the drain. The view of the ocean was fine, but in no way made up for the poor care of the room. The pillows were semi-soft on top but hard on the bottom due to how it was sewn.

Front desk staff would not let me check in before 3pm even though I just arrived on the only Guam to Saipan flight at 8am. They wanted to charge me for an early check in even if the room was available at 1pm, which in the years I worked in the hotel industry I had never seen. Late check out charge, yes. Early check in charge, no. Sadly, I had prepaid with my travel agent and couldn't go elsewhere due to lack of rooms.

For a room where they charge over $215 per night, they should be doing better.

Stay at a better hotel if you can. The price charged doesn't match the quality of hotel.

This is an older hotel, but our room was on the highest floor (19th) in the newer Taga Tower building. It was a great room - vaulted ceilings, floor to ceiling windows, large space with a desk area and table and chairs. Bathroom had separate shower and tub, with the toilet in a separate little room.
Overall, the room and resort were clean and staff friendly. The coffee shop had great, reasonable lunches, but the hours it was open could have been longer. The pools were nice and pretty well maintained, but there were a couple of times when no pool towels were available. There was a Polynesian Dance show at the resort which was enjoyable (no charge for guests).
We were literally the only Caucasian people at this resort the entire week. Saipan in general seems to cater to the Chinese, Korean, and Japanese visitors.

Stayed 3-nights at the Grandvrio Resort as part of a short budget-priced package tour from Korea. My initial misapprehensions that the hotel looked, "... a little tired and run-down", were totally overcome by the many plus points that the hotel has to offer:
- ideally located with easy access to T-Galleria (opposite), a large supermarket next door and other shops/restaurants/bars in Garapan "downtown" nearby,
- you can step out of the lift, walk across the garden/pool area and straight onto the adjacent beach,
- the hotel faces due west; great views from the room and ideal for photographing the idyllic sunsets from the beach,
- buffet breakfast and use of the large swimming pool were all perfectly acceptable,
- I found all the staff that I came into contact with (whether reception, at breakfast, poolside or housekeeping) to be helpful and super-friendly.

After checking-in to the hotel around 05:30 and resting for a few hours we noticed a large pool of water just inside the entrance door on leaving for a last-minute breakfast. On returning from breakfast the room had been serviced and the pool of water mopped-up. The problem must have been reported by housekeeping because later in the day I was contacted by reception regarding a room change. Although the leaking pipe in the service duct adjacent to the room's bathroom might be a symptomatic of the aging nature of the hotel, nevertheless I was impressed by the staff's prompt reaction to the problem (before I had raised it with them) and their assistance in moving to another room nearby.

I f you are remotely uncomfortable with staying in a hotel whether the other guests are predominately similar package tourists from North East Asia (China/Korea) then the Grandvrio is not the place for you. All-in-all, I was perfectly happy with my stay and felt that the Grandvrio offered good value-for-money.
