We had beautiful weather for this hike. It was a really enjoyable walk up to the tunnel (it's pretty easy just a bit hilly). The water is freezing at first but your feet do adjust eventually. And you definitely need head torches as it's pitch black without. Make sure you turn them off to check out the glow worms. It's quite an unusual experience and love that it's free. Highly recommend!

It's a short and pleasant walk to the start of the tunnel. The tunnel itself was originally a water race, before later being used for hydro-electric. It's worth walking through the tunnel, though the water is very cold. And there are nice glow-worms in there.

We did this walk to see glow worms with a 8 and 6 year old. We did get to see glow worms which was great but the walk was a bit long for the kids and there is water in the tunnel. I wouldn't recommend taking small children unless they are happy for a long walk there and back.

It is a long walk on a hilly track.
The ice cool water inside the tunnel might discourage you from going further. Bring along torchlight or make sure your hp has enough battery to last you the 20-30 minutes return trip inside the dark tunnel.
There are many glow worms towards the end of the tunnel. As this is FOC trip, you can skip the Glow Worms Tour at Tel Anau!

Short walk and fresh air...
Just a leisure activities in town after all the long tracks you did around Glacier Valley walks or else.
