Our cozy glacier treehouse retreat
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 10 Jan 2016
We stayed here for one night, after hiking both the Fox and Franz Josef glacier tracks.
Even though it was a wet and cool day, we had a great time. And our Treehouse apt., which is not actually in a tree at all, was very spacious and comfortable for our family of four. There was a full kitchen and laundry within the apt. And, 3 bedrooms. An extra shower, off the main bath, would have been more convenient if there had been a toilet there as well. But, overall, a great place to stay while visiting this area. Just a short walk to shops and restaurants nearby.

We stayed in a campervan on a powered site for one night and found Rainforest to be a well thought out place to stay with very good facilities. The site that we occupied was well positioned so that we didn't feel like we were surrounded by as many vans as we were.

None of the sites were particularly large so the issue we could see is that some of the sites near us were very tight for the larger vans that were on them. Whilst you can see the surrounding mountains there wasn't really any view to speak of but the grounds are lovely. Rainforest is pretty much in the town so it's an easy walk to the shops, etc. and an easy walk or ride out to the glacier from there.

I'd probably try some of the DOC sites nearby next time but if I was to choose to stay in town again then I'd be happy to stay at Rainforest.

Great location and facilities booked in for one night and stayed two. Facilities were clean and well appointed, we were in a campervan and used the bathrooms and the kitchen for washing dishes only but it looked good with dining area and bbqs outside as well. Each camper van site backed into the trees so the surroundings were lovely. Easy access to both Franz and fox glaciers which we did and had a great meal at the restaurant on the corner down from the resort. Fellow campers were from many parts of the globe and all considerate. Take your sand fly repellent, it is the west coast! Highly recommend and would return to this camp again.

We stayed for one night in a double room on the ground floor. Reception gave us a pint of milk when we arrived just what we needed to make a cup of tea after a long drive. The room was small but fine for just sleeping in. The fridge was quite noisy so we just turned it off. The bed was very comfortable and location central.

Clean rooms and super comfortable beds. It's kind of crowded with the motel, camper van park, and hostel though. Stayed in a tree lodge which was more secluded. Staff was friendly and very helpful. The only part I didn't particularly care for was the crowdedness.

The room room was smaller than a hotel room, but was very comfortable, cozy even. The bathroom was nice - only didn't like that the window was right at the staircase to the upper level. Really enjoyed our stay!
