This is a pleasant place to stay: it is ideally located for the town and glacier! The rooms are comfortable and quiet. Staff are very helpful: we were placed on a helicopter ride to the glacier within one hour of arriving: advised where to see glow worms for free (a romantic walk in the rainforest with stars and glow worms all to ourselves, just yards away from the motel) and delicious homemade scones each evening, delivered free and with a smile: thank you!)

There aren't a lot of options in Franz Josef, but this hits all the marks. Bed and bath are comfortable, it is very clean, staff is helpful with understanding the area and activity/food options, wifi is great, and it's a reasonable price. I consider this to be more than a motel, which at least in the US implies it to be of lower quality!

The reception guy was excellent, and showed us to our cottage which was at the back of the motel. Must say the room was clean and well appointed, but all the furniture looked as if it has seen better days, and needed updating to 2015. The reception staff brought round some hot scones and butter which we thought was a lovely gesture.

Room tip: The cottage was very dated but clean.

Stayed here for one night. Franz josef village is really nice, with a lot of restaurants within walking distance from most motels.
Parking right in front of the room, compact medium sized room, modern toilet, with small compact shower area (not suitable for an adult). Clean rooms, friendly staff (2 German tourists), owner even brings FREE Scones in the evening. A suggestion perhaps to give these out upon guest check-in, rather than knocking on the individual room doors at 9pm! A good gesture, no harm done. Having travelled the WHOLE of NZ south island, this was the most expensive one night stay we encountered! Not worth the money sadly!

We got a big studio with nice view on glacier. Whole the village is very noisy because of helicopters and airplanes permanently taking off and landing nearby - as from early in the morning. The style and furniture of the studio was rather Eighties than 2015. Very helpful staff at reception arranging flights and excursions for us. Good restaurant in immediate neighbourhood. Studio was quite expensive.
