Nice big 2 bedroom motel. Plenty of room - not super flash, but had all the solid basics we could want. Nice and clean. Great view of Mt Cook. Staff were happy to help us with ideas on things to do and places to have a nosy at.

Room tip: The big rooms by the road (Unit 6) was great for us.

I took a 2-bedroom self-contained unit at a fairly steep rate as the village was almost booked out on a Saturday night and I didn't want to stay in a backpackers. Decor was a bit last century but the unit was fairly comfortable and ticked all the basics. What didn't work for me was that it was probably the most expensive unit in the place with a great view of Mt Cook but right on the driveway where anyone entering or leaving the premises could look into the room if those on the inside wanted to enjoy the view. I eventually closed all the curtains for some privacy. When I got up in the morning and drew them to check the weather, someone from the neighbouring unit was sitting on the verandah in front of my unit, even though there was seating in front of the neighbouring unit. Of course the view was better from my unit, but again no privacy to enjoy it. This would be a good unit for a family group where privacy is not such an issue.

Nice clean, comfortable 2 roomed apartment with all you need for a stop over. Good location for exploring Fox Glacier. You can take a drive down the road to Lake Matheson and walk through the lovely scenery to the Glacier. Staff were helpful.
It is near Franz Joseph so you can go and see that too. The choice of resturants in the Village are limited but we had a good meal at The Saddle

If you are into bathrooms I suggest the one in our room was the most luxurious I have ever experienced in a motel. Clean comfy and great value just a bit out of town. A small price to pay for something special.

I am a motel skeptic, I find them seedy, the Mt Cook View did not do anything to dispel my impression.
The rooms were tired, the pillows hard and there was a generally fusty fragrance in the rooms, which were full of bluebottle flies when arrived. There are sheep in the field next door and windows should not be left open by housekeeping. The windows had the remains of previously squashed flies over them which didn't help with the view!
Plus they added a 2% credit card fee to the bill when we arrived. In this day and age I find a bit of a cheek, especially when it is not mentioned anywhere on the booking that this will be done. Why not just include it in the booking??

Mt Cook 'View' would have lived up to its name if the weather had been clear, this would have been some compensation.

Room tip: If you want a room with a view book a 'cottage', chair and table outside with view, when available...
