My husband and I live in Loveland, Ohio (a suburb of Cincinnati) and this is our 3rd trip to Owen River Lodge in the last three years. Yes, we visit our "Home Away From Home" once a year. We are already planning our return for next season. Within hours of arriving at Owen
River Lodge, you feel you are visiting family. Jude, the chef is
an absolute beauty (inside and out) and loves to share her knowledge of her native land. Felix is just the greatest host in the entire world! Seriously, it is true. You want for nothing with Felix at the
head of this lodge. In addition to the staff at Owen River being just
the best, you then consider the fact that this is some of the best fly fishing in the world! The guides are knowledgeable, friendly, courteous, kind, cheerful, brave, etc...and above all patient (which guiding for us is a must). In summary, we all have choices, and we continue to choice Owen River Lodge as our destination of choice.

We stayed at Owen river lodge for 5 days from New years eve 2007 during a 3 week touring NZ holiday from Australia. It was the perfect place to unwind with quiet cottages, beautiful surroundings and excellent service.
Obviously the main event is the trout fishing, but we also used it as a base to raft on the Buller river, do some great walks, play golf and ride the mountain bikes. After the days activities(delicious lunch was packed for us) there was a chance to relax in the privacy of the cottages, have a spa or join with the other guests for a drink pre dinner.... I think this is what is great about lodge style accomadation, that you can meet some really interesting people from all over the world.
The lodge owner, Felix, has created a " seachange" for himself that we were envious of, and the local staff are freindly and helpful.
There was much more of NZ we would like to see, so we are already planning the next visit , with the intention to once again stay at Owen River Lodge.

This lodge is about 20 minutes outside Murchison on the way to Nelson. It's predominately a fishing lodge although there are other activities such as white water rafting available in Murchison and some great walks up to Mount Owen.
The lodge is about 2kms off the main road so it is nice and quiet, it overlooks the Owen river so has that great sound of running water in the distance. All rooms look out towards the river with decking outside and chairs and a table.
The place can sleep about 10 people and the rooms are very comfortable and well decorated. The room has a complimentary mini bar plus the normal coffee making equipment etc. The bathroom was nice and spacious and has a shower but no bath.
Felix, the owner, and his staff really make the place and the atmosphere is totally relaxed. There is a communal lounge with TV and internet access.
Felix is very knowledgeable about fishing as he visited this area for many years before setting up the lodge. He knows the best guides in the area and has all the equipment on site. You just need to turn up as he has all the gear such as waders and wading boots etc.
We had a fantastic time there and even caught lots of fish! I would thoroughly recommend this place as a fishing lodge and as a place to stay near Murchison if you want to walk or raft.
