“Awesome. Clean and super friendly”

What a hidden GEM of a place!

Clean, good facilities, quiet and best of all- the people are LOVELY!

I wandered in a little weary having just completed a solo cycle ride from the bottom of NZ to the top. Despite me not booking anything, I was welcomed in and within minutes we were exchanging high fives to celebrate finishing!

Susie and Carol, the new managers were super friendly and made me feel right at home the second I walked through the door. Even though it's their first week of managing this place- it felt like they had been here forever. A friendly check in, organised, the place was clean and had a great atmosphere.

My room was immaculately clean. Oh and I'm sure backpackers will appreciate this....There are REAL duvets with clean removable sheets on that you can sleep under without fear of catching something or being bitten by something! It seems everywhere else I've been to in NZ you get a clean sheet, then a duvet or throw that is only washed once a year that you have to put over yourself. Not here! Oh how I loved the cleanliness!!

Facilities are good- everything you could want and need. The main town is less than a 5 min stroll away. There's nice hammocks to chill in, in the little garden area. There's also a communal BBQ area which would be great in the summer.

If only all backpackers experiences were like this. Only intended staying one night but delayed it and stayed an extra day chilling out. Loved it. Thank you!

Stayed for 3 nights, the management changed during my stay. They cleaned the whole hostel thoroughly, which is nice to begin with. The new management is really friendly, they have traveled a lot themselves and they honestly want to ensure you of a good stay. They even gave me a free KFC menu and let me stay the last night for free because of the changing management. Wifi is very fast, rooms are clean and spacious, kitchen is huge and (because of the new management) clean. TV room / lounge is also big and has a lot of nice sofa's. All in all a nice hostel with a really friendly new management. Definitely recommend!

We stayed in a private room which was clean and spacious enough.
The common kitchen is big and spacious but could do with a general cleaning.
Lots of cutlery, pots and pans need a good cleaning.
The showers where a bit odd outside.
One was broken no hot water so had to change showers ( not nice when they are outside).
And the bathmat was super dirty.
Place was full of people in their early twenties, but they were overall very quiet and respectful at night.
Wifi is working pretty well.

This hostel is really poor. The staff are a joke you have to laugh really is like faulty towers but with dumb and dumber running the show. The kitchen is usually messy and very busy not helped by half the cookers being broken. The rooms are ok, ours smelt bad but xould have been the other guests. The showers are dirty and some don't work. The place is only busy as they organise work for people staying there (everyone there is working or leave the very next day it's not a fun place to hang out). Some people just got mattresses on the floor in out buildings and still paid full price. It's not very secure with one theft while I was staying. It could easily be turned into a great hostel if someone who cared took it over. The owner is currently in jail for sexual abuse of guests. Google that if you don't believe me!
