Description: Welcome to the "Osteria La Rava e la Fava", our family-run restaurant. "Raccontare la rava e la fava" is an italian idiomatic expression diffused in our region, Lombardia, that means "to indulge in telling every little detail". This expression clearly derives from the peasant's jargon: the "rava" and the "fava" are vegetables and they could spend hours telling the property and secrets from the genuine food. We celebrate every day this saying trough the many details in our dishes, adding passion and expertise. Our cuisine is based on the quality of raw materials, and selected from the best italian regional productions, including some of theSlow Food Presidia and the best meat available. In the kitchen, for cooking we use butter and extra virgin olive oil (no margarine). For the seasoning on the table you can choose amongst oils from different Italian regions, including organic oils. Buon appetito! Enjoy your meal!

The restaurant placed far from the center of Milan in Burso Arsizio. around of it shopping center and also two big churchs is there and has very big belfly. Space nice and peacefull atmoshfere, furnished daily style. Probably you would feels yourself in relax, menu diversity is limited but you can fınd main choices. Also one meal deserves to be said something on it. Its called "Testardi" it looks like part of sponge and saturated pesto. Very delicious. Service is good. If you have a time and opportunity for wisiting would be nice expertise. Price range realy acceptable.

We dined here when the restaurant was offering one of its special musical evenings with a set menu of four courses plus wine and coffee for € 30 pp, including entertainment. The fixed offering was a dish of salumi, casoncelli (a kind of ravioli typical of Lombardia), tagliata di manzo (sliced beef seared quickly and served au point), potatoes with herbs, and bonet (a chocolate pudding typical of Piemonte). Since I don't eat salumi, the host -- the restaurant's original chef -- graciously substituted a mixed salad. The bread basket was not treated as an afterthought: in additional to fresh sliced bread, it included carte di musica, a cracker-like bread from Sardinia.

Portions were abundant. No one should go hungry here. But the casoncelli were dry and the pre-grated Parmesan was brought only after we requested it, not automatically. The tagliata was flavourful and cooked perfectly, but there were no steak knives in sight. Since European beef is a lot chewier than its American counterpart, a steak knife was sourly needed. We wound up tearing at the meat, not always successfully. The bonet had the prettiest presentation; its taste was adequate but not outstanding.

On our night, the music consisted of a "blues band" playing mostly American rock-blues from the 1960s-70s. My husband remarked that the music was out of synch with the Italian-rustic setting. The band made up in volume what it lacked in virtuosity. That is fine if you are there only for the music, as were most of the customers that night -- the seemed to be friends or family of band members. We on the other hand were there only in part for the entertainment; we also wanted to talk and that proved impossible.

So caveat emptor: if you go on a music night, go for music alone, not conversation. And bring steak knives whenever you go.

When I first entered, the place look pretty simple and easy, without nothing exceptional out of a great variety of wine and a very "Lombard style" in everything (restaurant, menu, etc. etc.).
The staff was kind and impeccable, the menu not massive neither too short, but the big surprise came with the food.

Patiently made (it took some time, totally worth it!), well positioned in the plate and great taste!
I need to return there and try out some other dish!

Delicious!
