“Great place to stay”

Location in old part of town is excellent. 3 minute walk to bakeries and shops, 5 minute walk to good small supermarket. We had a car and parked in nearby free community lots or on street, but a person could get by here without a car. 3 good sized bedrooms, very good beds, house could certainly work for a family of 5 so ask. Front patio and table worked well for morning coffee even with the chilly April mornings, and even better for evening wine after it warmed up. The tiny square in front of the house is extremely quiet. Both neighbors on either side of house very nice. Kitchen is not large but we used it mostly for breakfasts and then setting up for bread and cheese during the day. Good WIFI.

L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is well situated for drives east to Luberon hilltop villages like Gordes and Rousillon (both close), also north to Mt. Ventoux and Cotes-du-Rhone villages like Gigondas, and then west to Avignon (park on the island in the river, follow signs to centre ville then west to river), all less than 40 minutes drive. Farther is Les Baux and St Remy, then close to 2 hours for Languedoc places like Nimes. Pont du Gard a little less time since it is on the way to Nimes, a lot depends on Avignon traffic. I think skipping the south Avignon rocade (ring road) and going direction centre ville is the fastest way to both Languedoc and Avignon parking lots.

Both Les Baux and Pont du Gard are open for picnicking after closing hours, we really recommend the experience! So peaceful to have these places virtually to yourself and a break from the Easter Week crowds.

Suggestion for first arrival: Print out an 11 x 17 (A3) sized aerial photo of L'Isle from Google Maps and highlight the major in and out routes to the parking for the house. The owners provide a nice tourist map but it is not exactly to scale and the width of the roads shown is deceptive: at a roundabout the narrow street may be shown wide on the map and a wide street shown narrow. The 2 large supermarkets NE of town are open Sunday mornings but closed Sunday afternoons. The nice small supermarket within walking distance is open all day Sunday.

“Nice space, but needs some updating.”

We were drawn to the property by the photo of the outdoor garden table. We expected lit to be in quiet space in back. Instead, it overlooked parking lot. We never used . Area around table needs to be cleaned up.
On the otherhand, plenty of space in townhouse with enough equipment to serve several people. Parking in front, another reason we chose the townhouse, was non-existent. Fortunately, on street parking about a block away was fairly available.
Location was convenient to the main areas of Villiage and popular streets and restaurants.
Easy to drive in and out of town for touring the locale.

The best thing about this property is communication with the owner. She is incredibly responsive and helpful. Arriving was made very easy by her detailed instructions.

Management Response
22 Nov 2016
Hi Alice
Thanks for taking the time to write a review. I am sorry you were disappointed by the lack of a terrace at the back of the property. The description does state "a little terrace at the front". We, and most of our guests, enjoy having a drink or meal on the terrace area which does have some potted plants for screening. Indeed the neighbours can often be seen bringing their table and chairs into the square to enjoy a picnic lunch or dinner. When in France... The terrace overlooks a small square which has 6 or 8 car parks along its border....I am sorry you saw it as overlooking a parking lot and it is unfortunate you didn't manage to park your car here during your stay. There is no dedicated parking for the house which is often the case for houses in the centre of a town and you were not told the property had dedicated parking. The terrace at the front does collect the leaves from the plane tree when the mistral blows. The cleaners can sweep and have it tidy and then 2 hours later there are leaves. It is one of those never ending chores :-)

I am pleased you found the instructions useful. Thanks for staying at Le Vieux Platane.
Kind regards
Dellas

“We were very pleased”

Wonderful, informal 3br apt in a convenient location in L'isle. Well-furnished with comfortable beds. My only complaint is one bathroom for three bedrooms, but there is a powder room on the first floor. Plenty of charm and practicality!

“A beautiful and beautifully position town house”
Reviewed 19 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

This was the perfect house for us as a group. It was clean, well furnish, with the character we were looking for. The town was wonderful, easy to walk around, an excellent market and with lots of great places to eat. It was also well positioned to explore this part of Provence. I highly recommend it.
