Drove by this place many times and finally decided to pop-in for lunch with my family. We ordered a plethora of items. Two PoBoys, jambalaya, and some cornbread. I was pleasantly surprised, each of us was happy with our meal, the service was quick and attentive. I definitely am excited to return again in the future.

Inexpensive, delicious and filling gumbos. Attentive service. We would have gone back for lunch if we were still in town.

I went here for lunch after reading a review saying they were 4.2 overall. That was not my experience at all. The quality of the gumbo was edible the corn bread seemed very old and not edible. $18.99 for a bowl was a bit much, but that seemed to be an Anchorage average for a base meal.

We went for an early dinner. You sort of have to because they close at 6 pm. We have been to Gumbo House South many times and this was our first trip to the downtown location, which is in an old house. The inside is very nice, decorated with art depicting New Orleans. Because of the small rooms common to older Anchorage homes the dining area is divided up into small areas with a few tables in each area, which is actually quite nice. The menu and the food are the same and quite good. We had the jambalaya and the angel hair pasta with shrimp. Both very good and plenty to eat for the price. They don't have a big wine selection, but we did have a nice glass of red wine. Service was very good. Our server was attentive and friendly. If you like Cajun food, I would definitely recommend either Gumbo House . Just be aware the downtown location closes early.
