The facility is small but very welcoming. we enjoyed a private tour as we were the only people present for the afternoon tour.

On the tour you learn about how unique this farm is, how vanilla is grown, pollinated, picked, processed and sold. As you will learn, the pollination process is very complex. Our guide was incredibly knowledgable, and very welcoming. You could tell that he loved his work, and it really added to the tour experience.

As a bonus, there were samples of the best vanilla ice cream I've ever had.

We would recommend this tour to anyone visiting the Big Island!

After reading the reviews, we stopped here for the 11 o’clock tour. We had a 3 o’clock flight so the proximity to the airport was great. The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. It was fascinating to find out how we end up ugh vanilla extract and now I understand why pure extract costs so much. We’re so excited to try our extract kit :)

The tour was very educational. The facility is new and small. Our family had a private tour as we were the only people on the afternoon tour. You learn about how vanilla is grown, processed, and uses. I was surprised that the vanilla bean is grown from an orchid! Very manually intensive hand pollination process. Our tour guide was very nice. Vanilla ice cream samples at end. Would’ve appreciated dairy free ice cream

I would recommend this if you enjoy educational tours.

Excellent tour, flowers bloom in spring so we got first hand demonstration of pollination process. Beautiful. Highly recommend for this on west side of island. Educational and fun. If coming from east side, make this a stop on your tour of the island. Easy to find.

We have now had a chance to visit two vanilla plantations on the Big Island and both have taken a different tack with showcasing their creations. This location is very convenient for the Kona side of the island as well as being more hands on with the actual plants. JR was our guide for our visit which was just our group of 3 adults at 9:00am (weekday). We got to discuss how JR took 200 original plants 13 years ago and propagated them into 2000 plants that we see today. We could see how JR had taken his original concepts of planting and evolved them as he encountered problems like the height of some of the flowers.
I personally would recommend this location over the one near Waimea as this was much more educational in terms of cultivating and developing the processes associated with quality vanilla. The other plantation focussed more on the culinary uses for vanilla showcasing their product in food preparation.
JR and Guy are cultivators that show passion for their farm and it’s produce even admitting to rethinking original ideas as new ideas presented themselves.
Well worth the visit - don’t forget to get the ice cream!
