Having been to NYC before we wanted to stay in Brooklyn for this visit. This house in the diverse Bed-Sty district was warm, spacious and very comfortable; well-appointed and close to public transport. Only 5 minutes walk to the local C line and 10 minutes to an express A line subway station. Around the corner was a great natural foods deli and a coffee shop. The house was only a few blocks from the Sumner Cafe- a great coffee shop with a good breakfast menu .
Beautiful house with well equipped kitchen and good Wi-Fi connection. Perfect for families or groups. Lots of nice cafés nearby. C line great for getting around the city. Ruty very good at keeping in touch and provided lots of information for our trip. We all really enjoyed our visit.
Stayed in this for one night having booked 4 nights.
Couldn’t lock the internal doors and felt very uncomfortable about leaving our stuff knowing someone was living on the top floor. We left after one night to realise we could have spent the same money for a hotel in Manhattan and be round the corner from Times Square.
I am very happy to provide a positive review for this property in Brooklyn. We (a group of 4 singles) had a fantastic 3 weeks in this house over the New Years’ period 2016/2017.
The house itself is beautiful, very large, spacious and comfortable with all the facilities you need including a great kitchen to cook in with new appliances, 2 bathrooms and a separate laundry with washer/ dryer. The bedrooms are huge with comfortable large beds and have beautiful fixtures throughout. We used the three bedrooms and had the air mattress set up in the study which acted as the forth bedroom, this is a large double size mattress and very comfortable to sleep in. There is also plenty of drawers/ wardrobes and room to unpack in each room which is really nice for a long stay.
The heating was perfect and the 3 levels gave us all plenty of space to hang out together ( or separately which you often need after a long day) and it really did feel like home away from home.
The location is fantastic, only a short 5 min walk to the subway that takes around 20 mins into lower Manhattan. The neighbourhood itself is beautiful, with tree lined streets of brownstones and plenty of cool bars and restaurants to keep you occupied ( Peaches Hot House and Saraghina in particular.) I really can’t fault this accommodation. The tenant upstairs is very friendly and helpful and you hardly even notice she is there.
Most important of all is that Ruty the owner is extremely reliable, approachable and incredible helpful with anything you need ( before, during and after the stay) nothing is too much trouble if you need help with anything she always responds to enquiries asap which is fantastic. Ruty, thank you very much for all your help. Your house is stunning and we has a wonderful time staying there. We hope to be back very soon!
We rented this home for seven nights over Christmas and it was the perfect base to explore New York. Our group consisted of five adults (1 couple and 3 singles) and we required four separate beds. The house (built in 1901) is very spacious and character-filled with three large bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living area, a study (off the living area separated by sliding doors), kitchen/dining area and laundry over three levels. Using the queen blow-up bed placed in the study we were able to all have separate rooms which worked very well for us. On Christmas day we cooked a full Christmas dinner for 10 people in the very well equipped kitchen. Being there in mid-winter we found the heating was excellent, sometimes a little too warm for those upstairs but this was easily fixed by turning of the heating.
Location – the house is located in Bedford-Stuyvesant neighbourhood with the nearest subway station being Kingston-Throop, an easy 7-10 mins walk away. We found the neighbourhood to be safe, although it could be a little noisy at night with sirens etc – but that’s New York for you! There is a great grocery store/supermarket approx. 10 mins walk away that was well priced and had everything we needed. Anticipate approx. 15 – 20 mins on the subway to get to downtown and around 30 mins to midtown.
Dia (the fourth floor tenant) and Sylvia (the next door neighbour) were amazingly helpful, patiently answering all of our questions and put up with ten crazy kiwis singing and dancing on Christmas night!
Can highly recommend Daily Press on Franklin Ave for fantastic coffee and bagels (approx. 15min walk) and there is a great discount store opposite the Kingston-Throop subway stop for anything you may have forgotten!
I recommend this property particularly if you are looking for a more local New York experience away from the Manhattan crowds, for longer stays and if you are a return visitor to New York. For groups it is great value for money with the added advantage of being able to cook and do laundry. As you will spend quite a bit of time on the subway I recommend purchasing the seven day unlimited subway/bus pass (which cost $31) – it’s a bargain. Thanks Ruty (Dia and Sylvia) for a warm welcome and great stay.
