This small "Boarding" house restaurant is only opened limited hours. There is always a line to get in. The tables are served :Family" style. Each group of 10 is seated at a table. When you enter, all the "Fixin's/Sides" are on the table. Then comes some of the best southern food I have ever had. (Entrees). It is an "All you can eat" meal. Oh, definitely we will go there again. Hints..Either get there early (10a) or later in the afternoon. I think they close at 2p. But if you are in line still after 2p, you will get seated. Either way the wait is worth it. (We waited about 1+ hours) A tradition there is everyone brings their dirty dishes to the kitchen..after all it was a boarding house..

Our wait wasn’t too long—-slightly over an hour. We took turns visiting the gift shop on the corner and visited with nice folks in line. Weather was good.
The meal was all it was cracked up to be. Fried chicken is better than the barbeque, but all are on the table for tasting. Great sides. Don’t miss the cucumbers!!!! Biscuits are heavenly. My husband loved the cobbler. Definitely a calorie splurge.

There’s a reason people, including us, keep going back to Mrs. Wilkes. The food is served family style, it’s plentiful, and it is so good. Everything is fresh, authentic, low country Cuisine and the food just keeps coming and coming. I think we counted 14 different dishes at our table of 10 people. And after all that you get your choice of 2 desserts. When we went this time they served a table of military personnel first - a nice and deserving touch. You sit with people you just met and it’s great fun. There is always a line up outside so I’d recommend getting there by 10 am for first seating at 11, if you don’t mind waiting. There are a couple of seats in front of the restaurant but very few. It is worth the wait to be sure. To sum it up - it’s all good.

Skip breakfast! Mrs. Wilkes will satisfy your appetite for the whole day and then some. Served at large family tables by very attentive servers. You will likely have to stand in line outside unless you’re the early bird at 10 AM waiting for the door to open at 11. We counted 21 dishes at our table and likely missed a couple. It’s Southern y’all at its family finest.

We got there at 930 am. We were already #52 in line. We counted how many peoples left were in front of us. We waited in line in the rain for 90 minutes. It rained for 90 minutes and it was worth getting wet and waiting in line .
Lots of food. Do not eat anything if you are planning to eat here. Plenty of food and side dishes . The fried chicken is to DIE for. OMG. The fired chickens are the best .
Love the staff.
Cash only. Tables are for 8 people. So you get to sit and talk to other people . They can seat about 80 people at a time.
We were seated at 1145 and left the restaurant at noon and made it to St. John Cathedral for the noon mass down the street.
