Didn’t disappoint

Element downtown hotel is a beautiful hotel situated in downtown Philadelphia. Very well located and walkable to all the major attractions. The hotel lobby is located on the second floor in a beautiful designed modern way. We were given our keys fairly quickly and headed to our room located on the 31st floor facing the street. Our room was pretty spacious with a king size bed a roomy bathroom.

Tip: If you have the option don’t choose rooms facing the street because it gets pretty loud at night with music blaring and people revving their cars. We unfortunately weren’t able to sleep the first night. We asked to change rooms the next day and were given room 2814. Beautiful room with a separate sitting area a small kitchenette. This room wasn’t facing the street so we slept very well for the remainder of our mini vacation. We also had the very delicious breakfast every morning with lots of selection to choose from. The only problem for us was the valet parking, it was very time consuming to wait for the car. We loved the Element, we would choose it again if we ever stay in Philly but wouldn’t take the parking option.

Room Tip: Avoid the valet parking and rooms facing the street.

I stayed here for a month but despite the long duration, the spacious room that has a kitchenette made staying here really nice. A lot of plus points especially due its location which makes walking everywhere so easy. It's within 3-5 minutes walking to City Hall, 10-15 walks to Benjamin Franklin Parkway where the Rocky Steps is at. It's right in the middle of the city so getting to malls/shops was very easy.

The gym was decent with a variety of machines (10-12 people can work out at the same time and it still wasn't crowded. Breakfast was quite repetitive, however, with a kitchenette, I could prep my own if I wanted variety. However, the breakfast was set up in a way that you can pack your meals and bring it to your room if the dining area was crowded so the convenience was great for us.

There's a laundry at the lobby that you can use (pay with credit card). Wifi was decent, TV channels were good too and it has a Netflix option so you can log on to your account.

Some guests previously complained about the noise which we did hear from time to time, but earplugs took care of it. Even though housekeeping only cleans every 3 days, but they were still very accommodating whenever we had requests to change towels or any other concerns. It was a nice stay, Hotel room was nice, modern, clean. The historical buildings around the hotel are definitely a plus point. I'd recommend my friends/family to stay here if they're in Philly.

Room tip: Bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper

Great location in downtown Philadelphia. We were on the 19th floor and it was very quiet despite the hotel being busy. Good AC system, nice shower and nice amenities with the mini-kitchen. Loved the floor-to-ceiling windows, and beds were clean and comfortable. Staff at front desk were courteous and the breakfast choices were better than I expected, certainly better quality than a Residence Inn type offering. Easy to walk to subway.

Only gripe is around the cleaning. For what seems like a very new property, there were stains on the carpet and the bathroom door had grime on it from previous guests, and the shower could have been a little cleaner looking. Behind furniture there was a lot of built up dust. It was fine for our one-night stay, obviously the bedding was clean, and overall the benefits outweighed my view of the cleanliness, but if they want this property to last the maintenance needs to be more regular.

My wife and I, along with our four year old son, finished our three-night stay hotel for a mini-vacation in Philadelphia. Overall, we loved the hotel. What we loved: (1) the location; (2) the cleanliness; (3) the check-in process (appreciate we were able to check-in over an hour early, too - not sure if that's just because we went mid-week, during a non-busy time); (4) the courteousness of the staff at front desk and valet; and (5) the quietness of the hotel. I would like to emphasize the last point, in particular. As a light sleeper, and traveling with a four year old, I was a little concerned about booking a hotel in the middle of Philadelphia's City Center, but the hotel was perfectly quiet. I was never disturbed by other guests, or street sounds. Also, getting to and from the room was a breeze, as the elevators were also quick and reliable. In short, we would return here for our next visit.

The only comments I would have are that, first, it would be nice to see daily cleaning service, or at least turn-down service. That being said, given the nightly cost of the hotel and the quality of the room and how new/updated everything is, I have to figure that is a factor. Moreover, you can request housekeeping to swap out dirty towels and replace with fresh ones at any time, which we did.

Second, the breakfast could be somewhat improved. The scrambled eggs were OK, but a little bland, and would be nice to see more options (e.g., waffles, assorted fruits and more muffins). Then again, given the price for a nightly stay, you can't complain too much.

Third, the hotel should offer dish soap and dishwasher detergent for the little kitchens in the rooms. While not a huge deal for us, we would have probably used less dishes and created less cleanup for housekeeping afterward, if we were able to clean our own dishes, or at least run the dishwasher before we left. The lack of dish soap and dishwasher detergent made that impossible.

Finally, and probably my largest gripe, is the cost for daily valet. I appreciate that parking in any city center is expensive, but $60 for daily valet PLUS $13 tax each day is exorbitant. At a minimum, the hotel should offer a discount to those staying multiple nights to remain competitive with nearby garages, especially if you don't utilize the in and out service that often. In fact, we only used the car ONCE from when we checked in to when we checked out three days later. The notion of paying $220 for valet services for three nights (yes, that is what it came to in the end) is simply not competitive when I could park at a garage a couple blocks away for $104 for three nights.

That being said, the above points are relatively minor compared to the overall enjoyment and satisfaction we had staying at the hotel.

Great location and reasonable price. Huge room complete with all needed kitchen appliances. Only negative was loud AC. Would stay here again. Great access to Reading Market, City Hall, Independence Plaz, Rittenhouse Square, etc. We were able to walk everywhere. Great front desk staff.

Staff was SO helpful! We were in town for a wedding and the registration clerk checked us into our room WAY EARLY - like Noon! The bed and pillows were comfy and our housekeeper provided additional coffee and cream for us. On checkout, which was slow due to a huge convention, the registration clerk allowed us to stay late. We couldn’t have been happier and it was a reasonable price for a great location.
