As I am a Hilton Honors Diamond member, I have been loyal to the chain for many many years. When I visit a particular city or area I like to stay in different properties within the Hilton portfolio. This Canopy had opened up in Center City several years ago, so on a recent visit I decided to give it a try (having stayed at other Hilton owned hotels in the same area before).
I used the pre-check-in via the Hilton app the day before arrival, along with choosing my room. Then upon arrival I was able to bypass the desk and went directly to my room using the Digital Key.
I'll go over the negative aspect first and the move to the positives. My only encounter with the front desk came later, when I stopped by to ask for bottles of water I am accustomed to receiving after check-in at all the Hilton properties I have visited (including another Canopy in another major city). At first, I was looked at like I had three arms and four heads before I was told that they don't give spring water to guests, but instead there is a glass bottle in the room which the guest has to fill on their own at a central filtered water station near the elevator bank. I thought this was strange, and one doesn't really know where the filtered water comes from or how well it is filtered given the location in the middle of a major city.
Impressive is how many elevators exist in this hotel. Many, which means never more than a very short wait, and getting to and from my 12th floor location was quick.
My room was certainly interesting, the artwork and the amenities were welcoming and unique. My view out to the east towards New Jersey cannot be complained about because it's my home state.
TV, WiFi, and climate control all worked well. I got a good night of sleep, which is the main intention of any hotel stay. And its center city location put it near some of my favorite places to eat while in the city. Being so close to Reading Terminal Market meant that I didn't have to look for a place to sit; I just brought everything back to my room and enjoyed it there.
There was certainly enough space to spread out my belongings, and the bathroom had ample counter room for toiletries.
Definitely will keep this place at the top of the list the next time I need to stay in Center City Philadelphia.
