Good hotel, good location

Review of W Philadelphia
3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 27 Oct 2024via mobile
Good hotel, and good location. The titanium 0”us benefits are great. Room service was not every day, which was surprising. Also, the body wash, and shampoo, conditioner pumps didn’t work well. Rooms are all great views high floors and front desk service is great. Just need to think about small improvements yo get to 4-5 stars.

We stayed here for one night in October 17. My friend was a member and got us the room so I am not sure what we payed. We were on the 36th room and had a wonderful view. The beds were comfy, and the room very modern and clean. We had drinks in the lobby bar which has a very causal atmosphere. The location was excellent for exploring Philly. I would stay here again.

I would not recommend unless you found a bargain deal. Location is good. Front desk staff was nice. Room was large and nice view. However, room was rundown and design over function. Impossible to put on makeup or iron clothes with the lack of lighting. I get the mood lighting gimmick but they should give you the option to turn on overhead lights at least in the bathroom. When I checked in there were hairs left in the bathroom and a large nail clipping in the living room. Unidentifiable white spots all around the floor and wall of the toilet closet - which is lite like a film noir interrogation room. Elevator made very loud banging noise day and night in my room.

What really ruined my experience was a concern for safety. I could not hold a call with my cell phone from my room. My phone kept going in and out of SOS mode all weekend. I was in an upper floor and a friend 10 floors down had the same issue with her phone. Wi-fi was inconsistent. At 9:30 pm the VERY loud room alarm went off blaring a siren with a recorded voice saying over and over "There is an emergency. Stay in your room. Do not use the elevator. Do NOT use the fire stairs." This lasted five minutes. Then another five minutes of silence not knowing what to do and finally a 2nd recorded voice saying the emergency was over and we should return to our rooms, the fire doors will automatically close. Wait WHAT? You said to stay in our rooms?

Systems fail, there are false alarms, but the mixed message and the fact that staff did not call rooms or text (they texted my phone for check in) or go up and down the halls to check on guests with questions to explain that it was all a mistake, is NOT OK. I asked the front desk staff the next morning what happened, and they said they had no idea what I was talking about. I wonder if this happens so much it is not a big deal to them? I will never stay at a W hotel again.

Loved everything about my stay here. Welcome drink. I was upgraded to a high floor room. My room was clean and comfortable. The pool was a bit crowded because it is small but it’s a beautiful view from the rooftop. I enjoyed a drink downstairs and the Bonvoy breakfast credit was really great to have. The staff were friendly and helpful when I needed it.

When we arrived at 3pm there was no one on the desk. The one person working was helping unload luggage, we found out. The lobby flooring was filthy. The attached restaurant was expensive and staff were inattentive. The 33rd floor hallway looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in days. It even had a piece of glass on it. Our room was ho hum. Large, but the toilet was loose and tilted, the bathroom door handle was almost unattached, the cupboard doors dragged and squeaked, the desktop was chipped and stained, one of the lamps was unplugged and difficult to plug back in because it was under the desk and there was already so much plugged into the socket, and the pillow was dirty. When I had staff up in the morning to show them some of these issues, it took 20 mins for someone to come. They did finally credit a small portion of the bill back. Oh, and for a hotel this expensive don't expect free Wi-Fi. This is a nickel and dime experience, with the hotel out for every dime. You could go to Motel 6 and have a better experience.

Room tip: Don't go if you expect good value for your dollars.

Drove 3 hours from NY to see a concert for the weekend. Did the online check in but that was a waste of time. Got to hotel and checked in again apparently the room wasn’t ready yet at 330pm. Supposedly there is a late check out for certain Bonvoy guests at 4pm!?! After sitting in the “living room” for over an hour I finally get the text the room is ready. I had a mobile key so I didn’t have to deal with the people at the front desks. Room was fine with a great view of Philly. There was a huge gap in the barn door leading to the bathroom when it was closed and actually could see the person using the toilet. Very Weird!! Location is pretty good there are lots of shops and Resturant’s on walking distance. The valet parking is a HUGE scam. $60 a day plus fees came out to almost 75 a day. There are many parking garages in the area that are in walking distance to the W that charge half that price. Lots of homeless people just hanging around the front of the hotel. Went to breakfast at Dolce, the server was awkward. Food came out before he made my cappuccino. He had no personality. Overall I wish I would have done a little homework before staying here. The hotel is so dark, staff could be friendlier, and cleaner.
