I've been surprised to read the recent less than complimentary reviews of this hotel and can only say it must have gone downhill since my visit as I recall it as quite grand with a very nice room. Overall the room was clean and comfortable. My main issue was that the duvets do not have covers, just a sheet which is folded over them which I feel is not hygienic. If I had been with my partner he would have been tangled up in the sheet in no time and sleeping under the actual duvet which I don't feel is acceptable. I also had problems with wifi.
I happened to be at the hotel on the night of 9/11 and I was on the 25th floor. I was on my own and somewhat scared to hear a terrible rumbling noise vibrating in my room. I was just preparing to flee the room when I worked out that my room was situated behind three elevators and what I could hear was the elevators going up and down. This noise continued at all hours although I got used to it. For good measure I also had the ice machine outside my room! Luckily I am able to sleep through most things.
The view from the room was impressive, one plus of being on a higher floor.
The first morning I had breakfast at the hotel which was really nice but incredibly expensive, so after that I went to a nearby cafe.
Although the hotel did have some down points I did feel overall that I was happy and it is certainly really well situated for getting out and about in the city. It's quite possible to walk to many places of interest, including Times Square.
