Great hotel near NY Presbyterian

Review of Edge Hotel
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 23 May 2024
If you need a place to stay while a family member is cared for by NY Presbyterian, go here. I stayed here while my spouse had major surgery at the hospital & it had everything I needed.

The hotel is less than a 10 minute walk from the hospital, right down 168th Street. The rooms are compact, but clean and very comfortable. The bathrooms are nice.

Best of all, the staff is amazing. So helpful, they seemed focused on doing what they could to make my stay easier and, dare I say because of the circumstances, enjoyable.

So if you need a place in Washington Heights, this is the one.

We chose this hotel because it is just a block and change away from the Columbia-Presbyterian medical complex. If you are going to the hospital or the adjacent medical offices, the location can't be beat. It's on a quiet street, no traffic noise or honking horns at night.

Many NYC hotel rooms are small. I get that. But the bathroom was really, really cramped. There was almost no room to stand in front of the sink. The bathroom had narrow double doors. If you opened one, you had to slither out sideways. If you opened both doors, one of them was spring loaded and banged loudly if you let it go. There was little thought given to places to hang wet towels and washcloths. The one hook that could be used for a big towel was loose and a towel hung on it would block the auxiliary bathroom heater (which didn't work anyway). The shower stall was decently sized, but it had no grab bars at all (not good for a hotel that primarily caters to people coming to a hospital). There were no towel bars inside the shower or on the outside of the glass door. The toilet took a long time to refill and stop after flushing (long enough I lifted the tank cover to make sure the flapper was seated). The toilet tissue holder was loose.

On the good side, the bed and pillows were comfortable. There was barely enough room to walk around the bed, though.

A younger single traveler might not be bothered as much. However, this was not an ideal accommodation for two seniors.

Best hotel experience ever! Since booking to check out I had a great experience! Initially when I booked I had a question about early check in so I sent an email and had a response in 30 minutes! Upon arrival Dominic greeted us and had the best customer service experience! He provided us with a list of nearby restaurants and answered all our questions! The room was perfect, great city view and just 2 minutes away from the subway station! Definitely coming back!

Comfortable, convenient room with a wonderful view and a terrific front idesk staff. They were all knowledgeable, helpful and accommodating. The hotel .just a few blocks from Columbia Presbyterian hospital, and the subways, with many nearby restaurants, delis, and food trucks. The room was small but comfortable.

Room tip: Try to get a room facing south.

I chose this hotel because of its convenience to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. I had an early morning surgery scheduled for the following day. The Hotel met my expectations in Every way. My room had a spectacular view of all of Manhattan. it was simply decorated and quite comfortable. The room was very quiet. Only drawback was their was no food available accept for vending machines.

Overnight stay for a track meet at the nearby Armory exceeded my expectations. Gentleman at the front desk (who was there when I checked in at 5PM, when I came and went during the evening, and when I checked out noon the next day) was super friendly and helpful. Small lobby area also has a bunch of snacks and drinks for purchase - great selection, too. Gym was good for a quick workout and I didn't check out the lounge area at all.

Room was small (expected though), but everything that I needed was in there. Best feature - the heater in the bathroom!!

Only negative - housekeeping woke me up despite the do not disturb sign on the door before 9AM. She came back and knocked again around 11:30am (sign still on door). I can appreciate the need to clean and turnover the room, but checkout time is noon.

Hi Harry,

First, please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience you experienced with our housekeeping team. Everyone on our housekeeping team has been with us for years and is aware of checkout time and what the "Do Not Disturb" sign means. That should not have happened and we will share your feedback.
Second, thank you! Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us and for your kind rating.

We hope to be at your service in the future.
