We stayed here for 3 nights. On arrival they gave us a bunkbed room instead of the queen room we ordered due to ‘maintenance’ problems. Second night we had our queen room on the fourth floor. A cross the street there is a huge construction site and they start at 5-6 am and stop around 7 pm. You know new york brings a lot of noice, but it was too loud for a good night rest. Nothing the hotel can do about but still a bummer. For the rest very clean but small rooms and the hotel has a good location.

Stayed: May 2018

Appreciate that this hotel is probably not high end New York but over 300 dollars per night is high end as far as I am concerned and there was no luxury here. The room was quite tight, had no full length wardrobe hanging space and very little cupboard space. The towels were thin and not a decent bath sheet size.
Breakfast was a disaster...understaffed (they worked very hard to try and accommodate everyone but they can only do so much). The choice is hardly vast and you are allocated one medium plate when you hand over your breakfast voucher....so just balance everything on that.....no spare plates to be had ....and we ran out of bowls most mornings for cereal too. We ran out of milk, hot water, bread, fruit and the 2 hot dishes on offer most mornings but weekends are especially a challenge. We gave up on the Sunday after waiting 20m where there were no clean tables and no sign of anything much to eat...........at 9am when breakfast is on until 10:30am, this is unacceptable. We left to find breakfast elsewhere. In fairness, when we complained the hotel refunded the cost of breakfast for Sunday but seemed very surprised that this had happened.......I find that incredible given almost every day we had to ask for something that had ran out.
The bar was a joke with the barman charging what he wanted for drinks....we never got the same price for the same round and just stopped going. He didn't seem too happy when we questioned it either....
In a country that depends on tips, I found customer service wanting almost everywhere we went.....
On a plus side, the room cleaning was first class and the reception staff were very nice.
However, we will never stay here again.

Booked The Paul hotel for a 5 night stay in New York City at a cost of $332 per night which I thought was a bit on the expensive side but looking at the pictures on their web page I thought it wasn't to bad. well they say the camera doesn't lie, it most certainly does. We received a warm welcome at the reception which was nice after a long journey after paying we headed of to the room. Our view was looking straight into another building about 20' away or what we could see of it as the windows were absolutely filthy. The room was on the small size the wardrobe was pretty inadequate. The staff that cleaned and serviced our room done a fantastic job. The breakfast staff were very nice and the breakfast was adequate, but on the Sunday morning the hotel was so busy, the staff couldn't cope with the amount of guests and they ran out of food the staff had to go to a store to get more food, not what i would call organised and not the fault of the staff. Now i come to the bar which is another story!!!
The Bar man David is quite clearly on the take not once was our bar bill for each round of drinks the same price and when confronted got quite annoyed the change amount on the till wasn't what you received and when asked he just stated that it was the tax, i'm sure that i'm not being unreasonable when i say that the tax level is set at a specific rate and that the cash register calculates the cost of the round along with the tax !!
There are also tables and chairs outside the front door which is quite nice but you couldn't get a seat as they were being used by locals to sit at as they were smoking canabis and being very loud, Not a nice welcome for any of your customers.
Summary Hotel not worth $330 a night in a city that does nothing but extort money from everyone.

Room Tip: pick another HOTEL !!!!!

Excellent hotel. My room was kind of tight but clean and recently renovated. One morning I was in the room while the room was cleaned and I was impressed how good was set up. Staff in friendly and helpful. Breakfast and restaurant are ok, basic I would say but plenty of spots around the hotel where you can go as an option.

With its great location to Penn Station and Time Square, The Paul is the only place we stay at in the city. A room on the 2nd floor, 201, 202, or 203 will get you a great terrace. Those same rooms higher up get you some wonderful water tower views. On the other side is the Empire State Building.

Outstanding front desk and bar staff. We have never eaten here, only because there are so many options with in walking distance or that will deliver. Rooms have always been clean and well kept.

There are kid friendly rooms with bunk beds (or I guess adults too) and king bed rooms as well. We alway opt for a 2 dbls while traveling with our 2 youngest (11 & 13).

It really is a perfect place to spend an overnight in the city if you are flying out of EWR, JFK, or LGA or taking the train. You can walk to Penn Station in 10 minutes.
