Exceptional New York stay

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 31 Aug 2024
Reading the TripAdvisor reviews makes it seem like we stayed in a different hotel, as the hotel exceeded our expectations and we had a 5/5 experience for the reasonable price we paid.

I think we got a room upgrade from queen to a king bed. We booked a queen to have more space in the room but the king bed was fine. We managed to store our cases without tripping over them, we've had much smaller hotel rooms in Europe. Bed was very comfortable, bathroom was big (by NY standards) and free breakfast was great. There were so many options we could have a different breakfast everyday. Convenient location to visit Statue of Liberty, 9/11 Memorial and the ferry to Brooklyn. The subway was a 10 minute walk away, also plenty of restaurants in the area.

Breakfast room does get crowded, but you can always take food back to your room. Air conditioning vent is partially blocked by a wall unit so cold air does not circulate around the room well, this could be fixed if they swapped the wall unit to the other side of the desk. Shower was very slippery, needs a non-slip mat. There are no ceiling lights only lamps but that seems to be a North American thing.

The staff were wonderful. Other than that, the elevator was horrible. The room was tiny dirty carpeting meaning it was cleaned by the housekeeper but God knows what was on. It. Couldn't even move around each other. No view. Went around the corner to the AC. Fantastic

Room tip: Again, the staff was fabulous but go around the corner to the AC

The Room was very small. The Hallway was super hot.
Pillows were beyond firm. It was like sleeping on concrete. Slept horribly, couldn’t get comfortable with the pillows being so hard. They were so hard that I woke up with a numb ear from sleeping on that rock of a thing they called a pillow. If you want to actually sleep I would NOT recommend staying here.

Room tip: Being your own pillows

I checked in at the New York Marriott Rogers Fairfield Inn on July 1st. I originally planned to stay until July 7th, but I slept until after 8pm on July 1st. I found bed bugs on the sheets and they were swollen with blood. I ran to the front desk and was asked to leave. Room, I lost my clothes. I woke up at around 7 o'clock on July 2 and found that my right arm was bitten again. I was so angry that I went to the front desk and asked for a refund. The other party (a new employee) told me that the supervisor would not come until 8:30 and that he would come to me later, and he was completely There is no medicine. No one came to see me until 9:00. I went to the front desk and was told that they were still in a meeting and asked me to wait until 9:15. At 9:15, they told me that they were interviewing new employees. I couldn't stand the delay and told the front desk that I would be leaving at 10:00 and called. I told my friend about this on the phone. After getting angry on the phone, the house keeping supervisor showed up and promised a full refund and deposit, as well as follow-up medical expenses and others (I have a recording). The front desk refunded the deposit and the room fee was US$1,197.97. Another supervisor emailed me that it would be refunded in 3-7 days, but it was not refunded until 7/11 (I had already inquired with the bank). I contacted the hotel and booking on 7/11, but no one gave me any response. Very bad experience.

Room tip: Be aware of bed bugs.

Good location, near several subway lines.
My room was very small, but clean.
The breakfast was better than I expected, but the buffet area is very small and was very crowded in the mornings. I saw most people grabbing breakfast and taking it to their rooms because there’s just no space almost.
Front desk staff was friendly during check-in/out.
Overall it’s fine for a couple of days.

Room tip: The hotel doesn’t have its own parking lot, they suggest an offsite one quite expensive.
