The good - The location. reception staff generally pleasant and helpful.

The bad - The tiniest rooms you ever could come across with a wardrobe/closet placed on the top of a very well scratched small chest of dirty and dusty drawers. Many things in the room scratched and well past their finest years of best use. The grubby walls could do with a freshening up too. The dining area is tiny which is abysmal during breakfast time with not enough space for all guests to sit and eat. Despite there being nowhere to sit, tables had previous guests leftover breakfasts sat there whilst newer guests ate their breakfasts. Disgusting. Staff were available to remove used stuff but seemed to feel it was not their job to do so. The whole buffet area where the breakfast is collected could do with the occasional clean to remove crumbs and other remnants rather than just let everything build up. Again laziness by staff. The two elevators seem to have delays in their arrival probably because of the fact they are covering a large amount of floors.

All in all - a venue not to be returned to.

Hotel seemed clean. Rooms are really small, but the rates are pretty low for NY hotels.

Unfortunately, all the room doors on the whole floor slammed shut with a force that shook the walls and woke me over and over again, two nights in a row.

For security reasons, hotel doors need to be sprung to shut on their own and close. Usually there's some damping so they can close quietly.

In this hotel, every time someone came into any room all night long, or left a room, the slamming doors woke me up. For two nights in a row.

Clean, quiet, and functional are the basics - hot shower, towels. This hotel has two out of the three. Speaking personally, not getting uninterrupted sleep for two nights made it really hard to focus on my business and made everything else irrelevant. I travel to NY regularly, but wont' stay here again.

The Fairfield Inn in the Financial District met all my expectations. The room was very small, but it's New York and I was out and about the entire time! The bathroom, though, was very large and I appreciated that. I think my favorite thing was spinning the wheel in the lobby to earn some extra Bonvoy points. I'm a frequent traveler and haven't seen anything like that before, it was fun. The front desk staff was great!

Cockroaches in room. Enough to warrant the worse rating. What other travelers mentioned are true. Room is small. Breakfast area crowded. Carpet in room is extremely… dirty. You will step on hard and big particles on the carpet. I don’t think they have been vacuumed.
Heater makes a loud boom constantly and the cabinet is extremely disgusting.
Do bring and use earplugs.

This Fairfield hotel near the South Street Seaport is really more like staying in a college dormitory than a hotel. It has the smallest room I have ever stayed in any hotel in NYC with just enough room for a bed so much so that the mini closet is even built into and part of the small desk/chest of drawers! The comforter had brown stains on it, there was mold patches in the grout in the bathroom, the wood furniture was worn and badly scraped and some dubious wad was dripping on the wall next to the bed. The hotel is not close to any subway stations but at least a 10 minutes walk away, although the Seaport is handy and historic area with cobblestone street and many brick buildings is nice. The coup de grace was the serving of nauseating and disgusting powdered eggs for breakfast! IS there nothing sacred anymore? Has the world descended to the pitiful point of lowering the accepted level of service to offering powered eggs for nourishment? I challenged the front desk to just taste them to experience the full force of this blasphemy but they meekly declined. I feel like screaming NO POWDERED EGGS like Joan Crawford did in Mommy Dearest with her NO wire hangers or in Network when they shouted WE won't take it anymore!

Room tip: avoid it

Very central to most attractions - Brooklyn Bridge, 9/11 memorial, Wall Street, Liberty Island ferry all a short walk away. Breakfast was good, varied & even made our own waffles too ! Can get overcrowded no matter what time you go, but staff were lovely and helpful. Reception staff good too, giving us advice & best ways to travel to our sightseeing areas, always offering the free water bottles and helped store our luggage on our final day.
Rooms were a little outdated, but always cleaned & the bathroom was huge. Did have to ask for enough towels as there were 3 of us ( even though we got the right number on our first night!) View from all windows was a brick wall which was a little disappointing but we weren't really in our rooms long enough to worry too much about it! Noise of roadworks first thing was a little disappointing too ;(

All in all, a great reasonable hotel.
