Decent complimentary breakfast

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 4 Jun 2023
My friend and I stayed here for a week.
Upon check in the staff were friendly and attentive and whenever we returned they always greeted us. We were also able to store our luggage at reception on our last day.
At check in, we were told our room included a complimentary breakfast, we weren't aware of this. It was actually REALLY decent, saved us a fortune and just as nice as if not nicer than what you would get at starbucks and totally free.
There was a choice of 3 cereals, fruit juice from a machine, bread, bagels, muffins all of which you could toast and plenty of jams and spreads (peanut butter) to choose from. Tea and coffee. Hot food options, including an omelette, turkey sausage, bacon and a ham and cheese bagel. They were also able to provide brown paper bags if you wanted to take breakfast to go. One morning there were apples and another there were strawberries. They all had yoghurts in the fridge, all low fat and individual cartons of chocolate milk. We made use of the breakfast a few mornings just to save some money. We never struggled to get a seat but it does get busy so go as early as you can.
Our room was a twin and it was rather small but there was plenty of storage, unlike many other hotels in manhattan we have stayed at. There was a wardrobe with shelves and draws below. A full length mirror opposite the bathroom which had a decent sized shower and generally was spacious although could have done with a bit more storage. There was a coffee machine in the room and a fridge, the maids often left us complimentary bottles of water, the only thing the room was missing was a safe.
The wifi was decent enough.
The room was very warm. We were able to open the window ajar but obviously couldn't sleep with this open. The air conditioning was decent but where it was positioned it blew right down onto one of the beds so we couldn't have this on at night either.
The hotel was in a good location, opposite South Street Seaport on the Hudson and close to many subways, Fulton Street was probably our closest.
Second time we have stayed at a Fairfield Inn in the Financial District and this was MUCH better than the last one which was undertaking construction works whilst we were there.

Don't believe the pictures. There is no bar. The first floor looks nothing like it's portrayed on the website. Also, the downstairs area smells musty. Rooms are very small and beat up. Wallpaper is peeling and toilet paper holders are broken, among other things. The only reason I give this 3 stars is due to the kind man, Hayat, that checked us in, and the fact that I earned 2 nights with my Marriott Bonvoy account for staying here. Hope you do not need any extra towels. It was raining all weekend and so we needed to use our towels. I called downstairs on Saturday night (4.29.23) to ask for some more. The phone in the room does not work properly and it took 3 attempts before the rude girl answered. It must not work downstairs either because I could not get through when I called 4 times prior to check-in. The very rude girl on the other end told me that there were towels in the room and asked me if I had SEEN them. We were sent one old bath towel, a hand towel, and a washcloth. Breakfast is decent but there aren't enough seats and the woman who was taking care of the area was complaining in Spanish while she working. One of the elevators was broken while we were there as well. The whole place is a mess and way overpriced. The beds are not comfortable AT ALL. Marriott should remove its association with this place. Will not return.

Room tip: Bring your own towel. Get to breakfast early.

Stayed here 2 nights in April. The rooms are small, old and dated. Reception staff lied about no availability of bigger rooms. Lousy experience.I have status with Marriott so will book other properties. Disappointing stay.

Room tip: Look for other Marriott properties.

Location was good for what we wanted to do and subway stops were close by. Rooms were small but clean and quiet. We had a mini fridge which was nice. The hotel has two elevators but one was not working the first day we were there. The other elevator couldn’t keep up with demand so there were a lot of grumpy guests that were taking out their frustrations on the staff. The staff had made people aware the repair company was coming. It was fixed the next day. We were also told we would have complimentary bottles of water each day but they never showed up. I felt breakfast was above average with different options but the dining area is so small! Good luck finding a place to sit. Overall we had a good stay and would stay again.

I checked out on March 23th. Today is 22nd of April and the hotel is still holding my funds (about $1000). I contacted customer help. Twice they only forwarded my email to hotel, no one contacted me back. I sent 3rd email, they are ignoring me. I'm not able to use my own money already for a month.

I stayed here for a week in early March and won't be back. The location with regards to my office was very close, only a 3-block walk, which is why I originally picked it.

First, the service was sub-par. The front desk staff was not that friendly, and they seemed to be on their phones more than addressing the customers. In fact, I asked the GM to call me so I could discuss some of my concerns, and left 3 messages for her, but still no response.

The room I had was extremely small, even for NYC standards. The bed took up 95% of the room, it was actually hard to walk around. The bathroom area was a bit on the dirty side and needs an update.

The breakfast area is very small, and crowded, even early in the morning. The selection too was very limited and nothing exciting.

I definitely will not be back.
