Definitely won't be back

2.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 25 Mar 2023
I stayed here for a week in early March and won't be back. The location with regards to my office was very close, only a 3-block walk, which is why I originally picked it.

First, the service was sub-par. The front desk staff was not that friendly, and they seemed to be on their phones more than addressing the customers. In fact, I asked the GM to call me so I could discuss some of my concerns, and left 3 messages for her, but still no response.

The room I had was extremely small, even for NYC standards. The bed took up 95% of the room, it was actually hard to walk around. The bathroom area was a bit on the dirty side and needs an update.

The breakfast area is very small, and crowded, even early in the morning. The selection too was very limited and nothing exciting.

I definitely will not be back.

I originally choose this place because of its affordability and wasn’t expecting much - but it was fantastic! One of the better stays I’ve had in NYC (I’ve stayed at much pricier hotels and have gotten a lot less). The hotel staff was very friendly. I arrived early at 10am asking to drop off my luggage and they told me my room was ready! They always had icey cold flavoured water available in the lobby, I never had to wait for one of the elevators which is rare in a building this tall and their breakfast was amazing! Quiche, cheese omelette, fruit, cereal, pastries, toast, bagels, oatmeal, excellent coffee - fabulous! They also printed off a page for me when I needed it. The room was a bit small, but I didn’t come to NYC to spend it in the hotel room. It was clean, comfortable and safe - which is all I needed! I will definitely be staying here again in the future.

One of my dreams was to see NY on Christmas. Specially Rockcfeller Center with its Christmas tree.
The atmosphere in the streets is absolutely magical.
There are many Christmasmarstreet markets. I liked the one in Byrant Park.

Room tip: It´s difficult. There is always the sound of construction in NY.

The hotel has a number of pros and cons, but overall would not be my top choice for staying in New York.

For me, the hotel location whilst reasonably convenient if you are doing business in the Financial District, feels a bit sketchy. It's a quiet street near the piers with minimal attractions in the immediate vicinity. The lobby itself is quite dismal (which seems to be a recurring theme with other Fairfield Inns I have visited).

The rooms themselves have nice decor and decently sized. Unfortunately, I was staying for a number of nights and the room I was given had an adjoining door to the next room. This meant that noise in the next room was amplified. The first evening was fine - although I could hear a female on the phone to someone this was no major disruption. However, on the second night I heard many males (at least 4) in the room next door who were coming in and out and taking calls through until the early hours of the morning. Given there were only a few rooms on each floor and their room faced the elevator. I did not fancy calling reception to solve the issue then and there. Fortunately, the next morning I spoke to reception they promptly changed my room to one on another floor with no adjoining door. This was a vastly different experience, but I would not necessarily a great hotel for female solo travelers.

There is also free breakfast buffet included, which has a decent selection of food and beverages which you can eat in the sitting area or take back to your room.

Overall the service is very friendly and prompt, the rooms are well appointed for the price, but unfortunately the layout doesn't necessarily feel particularly secure.

Room tip: Request a room with no adjoining door. I'm not sure there are rooms with views - the two I stayed in faced a wall.

We had stayed at Fairfield Suites before, so thought we would try these in New York, as they were reasonably priced and breakfast was provided.

When we arrived it was late at night but our room was ready and the staff were helpful getting us to the room.

The room was large enough for us, but it is a shame they don't do the larger sized room for disabled guests.

Whilst the staff, breakfast and the bar were great, we were disappointed with three aspects.

We were disappointed that there was no safe in the room. We were also disappointed that our room had no natural daylight and that did drive us crazy after a couple of days.

The other issue was the large Housekeeping trolleys were in the corridor overnight, this meant that as a wheelchair user it was so difficult to get to the room. The only way was to push them in front of the lifts. Either way it was a fire hazard.

Room tip: Ask for a room with natural daylight

On arrival at this hotel I was bit skeptical as it didn't look like much from the outside. But once inside I checked in promptly and was given the keycards to my room on the 21st floor.

My room was slightly on the small side even though it had 2 beds but it was very comfortable and the wifi signal was great. What disappointed me was there was no room safe which would have been useful.

Especially as I usually left most of my travel money and passport in my room. Not that I don't trust housekeeping staff but I do prefer to be safe than sorry (no pun intended of course)

The only thing that let me down a bit was when I asked 1 of the hotel staff for a map, they didnt give me a very useful one which meant I had to rely on my GPS for the most part when it came to wandering the city.

And my GPS didn't always work either due to not having any phone data hence why I would have preferred a map. However it was only about 10 minutes away from the Wall Street metro station and only a few stops away from getting to Brooklyn. I'd happily stay here again should I ever revisit NYC
