Description: Ellen's Stardust Diner is a retro 1950s theme restaurant located at 1650 Broadway on the southeast corner of 51st Street in Theater District, Manhattan, New York City. The diner is regarded as one of the best theme restaurants in New York. The 1950s-themed eatery is home to its singing waitstaff known as (”Stardusters”). Ellen’s Stardust Diner has since served as the launching pad for many of its waiters/vocalists who have gone on to success in Broadway musicals and touring companies, domestic & international. Our retro 1950s-themed diner is filled with nostalgic memorabilia including the famous “Miss Subways” gallery honoring the beauty queens of a bygone era.

Prepare to wait because there is pretty much always a line down the street to get in. We went on a Sunday about 930am. Of course the place is expensive and the food is okay. Not great, not horrible. But nobody really comes here for the food anyway. The songs are fun, the performers are good, some are truly amazing. Staff is really friendly, although our table seemed to be forgotten about and there were long periods of time between visits from the waiter. I had a coffee and when I got to the bottom of the cup there was an old macaroni in it, so that was weird. I do wish there was more singing and less of the host just talking. They also come around every half hour or so asking each table for extra cash for the staff to fund them pursuing their acting/singing dreams. Overall, it’s worth a visit as a NYC attraction and my daughter definitely loved it, but if I wasn’t traveling with children I’d probably never go back.

Ellen’s is 100% worth a visit when in New York. The entertainment and atmosphere is what makes this restaurant. Some of the staff in Ellen’s are absolutely incredible, I’d buy their music now. Go and spot a star of tomorrow.

I have visited Ellens twice before for evening meal and enjoyed it (4 years ago and 2 years ago), so this time I thought I would go for breakfast instead, which turned out to be a mistake.

The food was ok but nothing amazing and the entertainment was no where near as good as it had been previously.

Mid way through our breakfast, the MC came round all the tables with a bucket asking for money to go towards the staffs dancing and singing classes so we put $10 in.

When our bill came, there was a 20% mandatory tip put on there which I think is extremely out of order considering they also come round with the bucket asking for extra money. When I asked about this, the waitress said that everywhere in Times Square add on a mandatory tip but I can confirm that this is definitely not true as we visited plenty of places in Times Square and didn't have any mafatory tips on our bills. I think this must be a fairly new thing that Ellen's has started as this wasn't the case when I last visited two years ago.

I don't think I will be going back.
