The infamous Ellen's - we had several recommendations and knowing the struggles of being an un-employed performer ourselves, it was interesting to see their way of life in NYC. We queued for about 40 minutes, it was extremely cold and tempting to just leave, however we got seated and were confused as there were lots of empty tables, but I'm sure they have their reasons. I hadn't heard great things about the food but I was pleasantly surprised, I had the chicken pot pie and it was thoroughly warming after being frozen from queueing. The price of the bill does not quite reflect in the food, HOWEVER you are paying for entertainment and an experience as well, don't forget that! The diner itself has a ground floor and mezzanine area and the singers take it in turns to parade the diner singing mostly musical theatre. It doesn't feel the cleanest but we enjoyed the emcee and performers efforts. We'd have preferred if it was serving and singing at the same time, to provide a more whimsical theatrical experience rather than a sort of MT karaoke. This is definitely somewhere that would work better as a bar with everyone under the influence of alcohol. Nevertheless, its a must see when in NYC!
