My son's NYC vacation plans fell through leaving him with an extra ticket to see Messi play soccer in New Jersey. So, he took his Mama instead! The Motto location is perfectly situated in Manhattan, just around the corner from the magical experience of Times Square with mega billboards and bright lights, bustling with people and entertainment.
The service at the Motto is top-notch with one exception. Our flight was delayed more than 4 hours and although we called, they did not hold our room (Messi fans flooding the area). They graciously provided us with an upgraded room at hotel one block away. We walked and rolled our luggage to that hotel at 2am in the morning which felt safe but was probably risky. I'd take off 1/2 a star for that if I could, but I can't, so it keeps 5 stars because they were nice, apologetic, and it was an upgraded room. The next day our room at the Motto was available, and boy, was it nice!
These are compact rooms with an impressive, brilliant design. You won't be inside very much because, after all, it's NYC..so the size was perfect! We had everything we needed to be well-organized. The amenities included a full-sized steamer, a hair dryer, and plenty space for 2 people to hang multiple outfits for the next day. There's a wall ledge big enough to roll luggage underneath, work on laptop, or use as a table for eating meals. The huge TV was nice, too! There's also two extra seats including a modern fold out strappy seat and a really cute ottoman. There's plenty of vanity space for toiletries or makeup. They also provide a wonderful shower gel, shampoo and conditioner, handwash, and a wonderful smelling lotion that relieves tired feet! Another brilliant idea!
One thing to be aware of, is colored glass on the toilet area is not see through, but the the colored glass on the shower is definitely see through. When one of us showered, the other left the room which presented the opportunity to go people-watch, use the nice gym, or explore outside so it wasn't much of an inconvenience for us. The lobby decor was not my favorite, busy flooring with rather plain walls and lighting, not as relaxing or as glamorous as it could be. The elevators are extremely fast, stopping on the floor punched in on the keypad. We were on the 21st floor with an incredible partial view! The window opened about 1.5 inches, so I could hear the city sounds any time I opened it, which I really enjoyed.
We had the bunk bed over a queen bed which provided a sense of privacy for both spaces. I didn't think I would like the bunk beds, but I actually really liked them. In fact, I recommend them. Each bed had 1 or 2 wall chargers at the headboard which was convenient. I slept like a baby on the luxurious mattress with beautifully soft pillows. There is no coffee-maker in the room, but there is a coffee shop in the lobby that is nice spot for mingling or enjoying some downtime. We did not dine at the hotel restaurant because it's a bit pricey. Our room was nicely cleaned each day while we were out. The fridge is stocked with two types of water daily, and the snacks are refilled daily.
And...there's more; the room had a gift bag that blew me away! It contained a really magnificent coffee cup with their logo, mints with their logo, and much more! The Motto is a great hotel, in a great location, that gave me the experience of a lifetime! I highly recommend this hotel. All of the staff are friendly and I would definitely stay here again. It is well worth every penny!
