Lots of pluses to this hotel. It’s very clean, the theming is really fun, and the rooftop pool is a real treat. The location is good, if the hustle and bustle of Times Square and 7th Av is what you’re after. No markdown for small rooms, as they’re all small in New York!
If I’m honest staff were OK but we had barely any interaction. The reception staff especially were not hugely welcoming, if I’m honest; they were mainly talking to each other. I’m not usually put off by that sort of thing as I reckon we’re all humans and can’t be on it all the time, but I mention it as the contrast was kinda stark compared to the welcome you get in other places in NYC.
One main downside: As others have said: yes, the elevator situation is… annoying. Basically, they take an age, and as the hotel does so much to encourage non-guests onto the premises - which is understandable, given the foot traffic past the building- this does mean frequent queues just to get onto an elevator. And even when you do, certain elevators don’t go to certain floors 🤦♀️ no option to take the the stairs - it was just a pain. Even getting through the front door can be an ordeal, as they have staff outside with leaflets for special offers for the restaurant, so the door gets blocked.
All in all, this wasn’t a massive inconvenience and didn’t ruin the trip or anything, but it would make me think twice about staying again.
