I recently stayed at the Conrad Downtown NYC, and it was outstanding. Miles Gomez and Aranthis provided exceptional service, making my stay incredibly comfortable and enjoyable. I recently stayed at the Conrad for 3 nights. After checking out I took a look at the bill that was emailed to me and discovered that I had been overcharged by more than $800. I did not think it was necessarily a big deal. That changed when it took 3 emails over a period of 7 days to get a response from the hotel. That is not 5 star service. I was also not impressed with the fact that the fridge in the room says you will be charged $25 if you move anything. In other words, don't even think about putting your own drink in that fridge. Again, not what you would expect in a 5 star hotel. Especially when the ice bucket that they give you is literally barely big enough to hold one bottle. Thus, they are trying to force you to pay $7 for a can of coke. Not good to be nickel and dimed at a hotel where the rates are $500 - 700 a night.

If you're looking for a pleasant and cheap way to get to midtown, check out the NYC Ferry. It is located just steps from the front door of the hotel and costs just $4. It drops you off at W. 39th street (even though the name of the stop is Pier 79). The relevant route (when booking online) is the St. George line.
