Owner description: Through commemoration, exhibitions and educational programs, The National September 11 Memorial & Museum, a nonprofit in New York City, remembers and honors the 2,983 people killed in the horrific attacks of September 11, 2001, and February 26, 1993, as well as those who risked their lives to save others and all who demonstrated extraordinary compassion in the aftermath of the attacks.

The materials and artefacts of 9/11 are well presented to tell the story of that day and for those of us from outside the USA, it brought home just what a physical and pyschological effect it had.

However, I didn’t feel I learnt anything new, having watched it all unfold on TV in my office back in 2001. I felt that more could have been made of the political background that led to these attacks. As it was that section was at the end of the museum and a little cursory.

I thought the tribute to those who died was very good and appopriate.

A thoughtful and moving memorial to truly terrible events. It is worth taking a guided tour; we booked with Viator on the Trip Advisor website.

Well worth a trip. The quiet hits you first. In a city like NYC, the quiet is so weird. I was choked up for most of this visit because it just feels like too soon for me to be visiting a site where 3000 souls were lost at once. The infinity pool with all the names is so amazing. To look down into that great hole, is an experience in itself.

The museum is where I lost it. The pictures are so real and raw.

The first thing that hit us was the quietness inside the building even though it was very busy. The respect shown by people was evident at all times. You would have to have a heart of stone not to be affected by the displays and this was shown by the amount of people who quietly shed a tear. This is an attraction that no one should miss and it will still attract people many years from now never letting them forget the tragedy that happened on 9/11.
