Junior’s is the original American diner which is renowned for its crazily generous stuffed sandwiches, enormous steaks, the greatest American burgers and the fantastically gargantuan puddings that are unimaginable until you see them.

The highly recommended meals are the various burgers (I tried three of the different varieties and they were amazing), the pulled pork sandwich which is tremendous and the chicken deluxe is something else.

The puddings of choice are the Devil’s Food Cheesecake (fabulous just doesn’t cut it), the Chocolate Fudge Layer Cake (phenom), the Carrot Cake (not to be mistaken for the Carrot Cheesecake but both are delish and very different from one another and both very scrummy), the Red Velvet Layer Cake (bliss), the Lemon Meringue (which is colossal and you don’t know whether to eat it or climb it), the original New York Cheesecake (incredible) and the Black Forest Cheesecake (which is literally Heaven).

We visited the magical New York City for seven days, and five of those days were spent in Junior’s, whether it was for a full blown food fest or just a cheesecake and coffee. We found Junior’s on our last visit and this time we visited all three of their restaurants.

We walked the Brooklyn Bridge and our reward was a visit to the original Junior’s at 386 Flatbush Avenue. If you are scouring Times Square then pop along to 1515 Broadway at 45th Street which is convenient for before or after a show. Their newest restaurant can be found at 1626 Broadway at 49th Street which has some really lovely typical New York residential areas nearby, which can be nice to walk down to soak up the atmos.

This being the newest restaurant is fresh, clean and bright... in fact it is proper swanky with enormous illuminated letters spelling out the restaurant’s name, and obviously they rotate from side to side. The food was great and the puddings were consistently spectacular. We were assisted by Serena who offered first class customer service, she could not have been more attentive if she tried. However, Karina D who was assisting at the take out bar could have been a bit more friendly. Serena (like Steven B, Ingrid, Ryan and Jigme who assist in their other restaurants) are Junior’s through and through, but we did not feel the same appreciation for our visit from Karina.

On our recent trip to New York we ate at this Junior's twice. First time was for dinner before the theater and Kevin was our server. He was on top of everything, food arrived quickly and correctly. Great experience, so much so that we went back for lunch a few days later. Not so great this time. Food still great, but service was bad. We were seated fairly close to the front of the restaurant and after we were seated we waited....... Finally this nice young lady took our order, then we waited.................Then she brought our food, sort of, she did not bring my milkshake and I ended getting up to ask her where it was. When we finished we waited again and finally she brought our bill and disappeared, again. After almost 10 minutes I went to the host station and asked if someone could please process our payment, which they did. The food was so great that we would go back again, but would not sit at her station.

Came here only for the cheesecake so can't comment on the rest of their menu. The cheesecake did not disappoint, creamy and delicious, 5 stars. The portions were huge so we took half to go and enjoyed it just as much the next day. What let Juniors down for us was the service. The girl who showed us to our table was surly and slapped the menus down then walked off without saying a word. No smile there. The waitress was ok but didn't offer us takeout boxes despite our still half-full plates, we had to ask for them. We came in late at night when they weren't busy so no excuse for the lacklustre service.
