Owner description: Founded in 1916, the Zoo has been an icon in San Diego for nearly 100 years—and an absolute must-see in Southern California. Spend the day monkeying around in our tropical oasis as you visit beautiful habitats that are home to gorillas, eagles, tigers, sun bears, Asian leopards, rare reptiles, a palette of colorful birds, and more. Visit the Australian Outback to delight in our colony of 24 koalas, and travel along Panda Trek to experience giant pandas and other animals that share their bamboo forest habitat. Go back in time through Elephant Odyssey to discover what animals used to roam Southern California and see what the elephants are up to. Enjoy a guided tour on a double-decker bus or the scenic view from the Skyfari aerial tram, and dine in the peaceful surroundings of Albert's Restaurant. Discover the wonders of wildlife with animal encounters, interactive experiences, and keeper chats. A leader in animal care and conservation, the San Diego Zoo is at the heart of the San Diego experience.

San Diego Zoo is a well-done attractions for both kids and adults. Areas are divided in vignettes: tropical, Africa, forests, xeriscape, natural habitats and many huge sculptures of animals are added into the landscape. One can tour it on foot like we did and enjoyed the walking through plants, animals, going up and down the stairs and stopping for pictures everywhere, or one can take a tour with a bus and cars with canopy on top and a driver.
We didn’t get to see many animals, some were hiding and some sleeping. We enjoy the various nature and different landscape. The area we loved the most, was the pond with flamingos. It was the liveliest area of the entire zoo. We could hear the flamingos from far away and visit them for an hour. They are colorful, loud and active, we couldn't stop admiring them.
The entry fee is very expensive and so are food and treats.

We just had to check it out - you can't come to San Diego and NOT go to the zoo. We only had an afternoon, so we didn't get to see the whole thing, but loved what we saw and really liked all the vegetation along the pathways. Some areas were way more crowded than others, but the vegetation made it feel a lot less crowded. We ate lunch in the "Outback" area and we were surprised at how good the food was. Just chicken strips and fries, but restaurant quality!

From pandas to giraffes, gorrillas to elephants, the zoo animals all outside in the sunshine did not disappoint. (no smelly inside viewing) The zoo demands lots of walking but is designed to keep viewers onthe paths that go down the hill. THE climax, to exit the park, is a a free aerial ride over the entire park (eliminating the walk back up hill, and creating breath taking view of the entire park from above.

To be honest I'm not a great lover of Zoo's generally, but I made the trip to see for myself as it had been many years since I last visited one. The overall experience was good, the fact that the zoo is heavily involved in conservation makes it acceptable. I have traveled to Africa and been on safari's and seen the animals in the wild which is obviously the best place.Unfortunately mankind himself isn't helping the plight of the creatures and the efforts of San Diego Zoo and others is important. The animals I saw here appear well cared for.

Beautiful Zoo! Not big on caged animals but my son love tigers and hippos! We had a great time wished we could have completed the entire zoo! It’s huge
