Greg Norman designed course with spectacular views

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 14 Aug 2017
If it is a city life you are looking for, this is not for you but if you are looking for a good round of golf with the serene environment, Lao Lao cannot be beat. I recommend a mug of beer around sunset. The single rooms may not be roomy but the beds are very plush and comfortable. To me, this is the best hotel in Saipan. Also recommend dipping in the cold/hot bath downstairs to relieve your muscles. It is beautifully designed resort that will take your breath away.
Date of stay: October 2016
Room Tip: Farther from the elevator, the quieter. The restaurant also offers one of the best Korean dishes...

We have been here 4 nights so far and I wish I could say we were checked out , but unfortunately we have 3 more nights to go. We usually stay at the Hyatt, but it was sold out this trip and we had heard Lao Lao was a safe hotel.

The pros : The rooms are ok, with a kitchen sink and coffee pot, tile floors, balcony overlooking the bay and average size. The staff is very nice and it does feel safe.

The cons: The balcony railings are severely deteriorating and chunks of the foundation are missing so don't lean against it, the pool has very limited hours (11-7), there is no beach access, there is 1 restaurant that is pricey and sorely lacking in quality (we tried it 2x), the location is very remote and to get anywhere you must have a rental car, and most importantly you will NOT get a full nights sleep. We have had issues ALL 4 nights! We've had no power issues for 2 of the nights and lights flashing on and off, we had a fire alarm go off for over an hour 1 night around 2 -3am. When I called the front desk, I was told there is no fire, yet the alarms continued and NO announcement it wasn't a real fire. This happened AGAIN the next night, although not as long.

If you can afford a $185 round of golf you will be hard pressed to find a course anywhere in the world with better views of crashing ocean waves and black jagged cliffs. Set on the level cliffs next to the ocean this course looks out off the island into the bright blue Pacific and is cooled by ocean breezes. The greens are fast and the course is well kept. Just keep your ball in the fairway as the out of bounds is a ball eater. If you love golf don't leave the island without playing this course.

Room tip: Play early morning or late afternoon

It was a great expeirence. Rooms are spacious and clean. Food is great. The hotel is right next to golf courses. It is a heaven for golfers. It is located at the other side of the downtown, but the hotel provides a shuttle bus.

We didnt come on a golf vacation. In fact, we never golfed the entire time we were here but still loved it here.

Its on the east side of the island, away from touristy Garapan in the West. We rarely saw people while they were here probably because most of them were out in the field golfing.

We rented a car, and liked that we were able to go to Garapan for meals and beach and a little bit of souvenir shopping, then were able to come back to quiet secluded Lao Lao.

Staff are friendly, and the rooms are bigger than the Hyatt with a small living area in all rooms. Loved all the wooden furniture and the way the room was set up.

They have a great view of the golf greens and ocean. They have a simple pool which is clean and great for kids. Would stay here again next time.

Lao Lao Resort offers much larger rooms than most hotels. They offer a kitchen nook with sink and fridge. But there is no cooking source other than an electric kettle. They offer tea cups and plates and really silly small utensils. They do not offer anything to make your tea or coffee in the room. Bring your own I guess. There is bar seating. This hotel offers a sitting area but the couch was not comfortable at all. Never really sat on it. The TVs are very small for the size of room (37" maybe). Since sitting on the bed to watch, it was hard to see on the other side of the room. The beds were okay comfort. Not high end mattresses but overall, not bad. The pillows are feather and really sucked!! Hate feather pillows and they gave me headaches, going flat and no support. Hotel does not offer alternate pillows or extra pillows either. The bathroom is divided by sliding wood doors but ours never closed right. Toilet and shower rooms were separated by sink area and both had glass doors. Bidet toilets were top...heated seat, heated water and air drying....very cool!! The best feature of all...the rain shower!!! Large room with a large rain shower head was the very best! We came for a golf vacation and this is a great place to golf. I would stay again. Just remember, it is further away from town and action of Garapan. But...nothing is ever far away on this tiny island.

Room tip: All rooms are "oceanview" but ask for one that actually faces the ocean and not the lobby or other tower.
