It seems like, with all the reviews that I do, I rarely give a bad review. However, because part of the thrill of travelling is to research all destinations thoroughly beforehand, we are seldom disappointed in where we end up. This goes for Primrose Place. Initially, I would have liked to stay at the Primrose Inn, but when finding that they were booked for the dates we required, we booked a room for two nights in their sister accommodation, Primrose Place. Not disappointing, at all. I rate it as very good, only because it was not near the waterfront, but three or four blocks away from the main tourist section of Bar Harbour. This was not a problem at all, because I love to walk, and what we couldn't walk to, we drove to. I had read a lot of reviews about issues with parking, and the one time we took the car to the waterfront it didn't take us very long to find a spot (and only because my husband has issues with walking long distances). My morning walks, however, took only about 10 minutes to reach the water and the main commercial section of town. Outside of that, to see the rest of Mount Desert Island, you need to drive anyway, so it was rather nice not to be right in the busy part of Bar Harbour, given that we wanted to take our vehicle out frequently. Primrose Place is well appointed and very well maintained. There is a central common area for coffee, refrigeration, ice and many tourist pamphlets. We would not hesitate to stay at this spot again. For any scrapbookers out there, there is a lovely scrapbook and quilt shop around the corner and about a block towards the commercial area. There is also a shop that sells off library books for a very good price (see picture posted). In addition, the accomodations are on a quiet side street and any situated room would be very comfortable given it is a long building, with all rooms fronting on the parking lot where there is lots of parking.More
