1st Visit to Guam

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 21 Jul 2024via mobile
The rates are reasonable. The location is centrally located and there are restaurants and bars in walking distance. There is no beach property access to this hotel unless you walk across the street or go thru another hotel. There is no bar lounge for a late night drink. The room is cleaned every two days. No room service. Night life shuts down pretty early so if you want a late night meal, drink, snack you will have to hunt a place down. Water slide featured as amenity is closed.
Date of stay: July 2024
Room Tip: Plenty of parking. Humid weather. Love this place. It is rich in culture and the Chamoru people...
Trip type: Travelled with family

The hotel looked a bit dated, although you pay for what you get the breakfast on every day of my stay was cold, the cereal was warmer. Granted it's a great location but sadly a little walk to the beach. Wardrobe space was not enough for my clothes as I was packing for 3 locations.

Room tip: If you are from England and require yours you are out of luck, tour office in the hotel only caters for Japanese and Korean tourists.

Nice hotel but don’t expect much from the cleaning staff. You pay for everyday you stay but they only clean every other day. You have to request water be put in your room. Those are their words. The last thing I want to do after 8/12 hours of work is have to search for water.

Room tip: Make sure anything your use to getting at a hotel is covered in your reservation.

If you’re looking for a place to stay in Guam with a touch of comfort, a bit of luxury, centrally located and at an affordable price then look no further - here is Guam Plaza Resort & Spa. Located at the heart of Tumon, the commercial, entertainment, and shopping district of Guam right beside the famous Tumon Bay, a long stretch of fine white sand beach and turqoise crystal clear blue waters. The hotel is nestled of top of the hill overlooking the beach and the several luxury beachfront hotels and is just 10 mins walk downhill to the beach. It is behind JP Superstore mall and adjacent to T Galleria by DFS Guam and across The Plaza. And all over the hotel are numerous stores, cafes, bars and restaurants even a Catholic church (Blessed Diego), Tarza Waterpark and the Guam Zoo.The hotel is equipped with all the comfort, convenience and a bit of luxury it can offer ot its guests at just half the price of famous 5 star luxury beachfront hotels. We booked a Standard Room for 3 with breakfast for just 280 SGD++ per night. The room is equipped with 2 single beds and an extra bed. It is huge, spacious, clean and well maintained which combines both classic, elegance and a touch of modernity. We arrived in Guam early in the morning and check-in time is around 3 PM. The Pink facade of the hotel gives it a charming, endearing vibes similar to Beverly Hills hotel in LA. The lobby can be accessed from JP superstore or from the right side main entrance and where the driveway is also located. The lobby is huge and elegant, JP superstore is on the left and the Rootz restaurant where the breakfast is served sitting just across the check-in counter. The hotel check-in was fast, smooth and easy except the key card given to us was not working at first but the staff corrected it right away. They have their own covenience store, travel office, ATM machines and lots of local Guam historical archives, paintings, and pieces decorated around the hotel lobby up to the lift area which for us is near the convenience store. We were booked on 3F at the farthest end but we have a glorious view of their pool below.. The other rooms are located on the adjacent bldg so the lift area are separated preventing a lot of waiting times for guests to use the lift.

Because of the huge lobby, it is a bit of walk going to the lift area but we never mind because its a nice atmosphere and cold airconditioning, however, our room is located at the farthest end of the 3F so walking down the long hallway is like doing a fashion walk. Regardless, they gave us a stunning view of their garden and pool below and this room is equipped with huge balcony not found now in some modern hotels. The room is simple yet very classy with a touch of modernity. It is very clean, proper, well maintained and very straight forward which we loved very much. The color tone of the room is classic - Golden brown layout with Off White wall colours. The toilet is made of Beige marbled floorings as well as the entrance hallway. On the bedroom side, flooring is made of wooden stlye vinyl floorings. As you enter, wardrobe and tons of compartments are located on the left side equipped with safety box, luggage racks. hangers and complimentary slippers provided. On the right is the huge toilet/shower/tub which is separated by a glass door. I loved the huge mirror and the steel sink and a wide compartment below. Of course complimentary toiletries and clean complete set of facial and body towels were provided. Water pressure is strong and heating is easy to regulate. Using the tub is quite easy to fill with strong water pressure and they provided full bottles of shampoo/body wash. The only thing there is no bidet provided on the toilet but nevertheless I loved the whole aesthetics of this part fo the room. Right outside the toilet is a body mirror and a Red lounge chair next to it - for me this is the off part of the room maybe because of our extra bed that’s why they put the chair here and no more place to put it. Next to it is the wall mounted Flat screen TV equipped with cable channels mostly US and a bit of international ones. There is a wooden frame with tons of compartments around it where we could place our things which I loved very much. The space below the compartments are good to place your luggages even open them fully and you still have enough space to move.

Then next to the TV at the farthest end near the balcony is the study table with a modern white lamp, a chair and a mini-fridge. They provided complimentary bottled water on the first day only standard for some other hotels. Airconditioning is located here right on top of the extra bed and we tried to control the fan blade but its not stopping. Regardless, the blanket they provided is warm and thick enough to shield you from the cold. And perhaps one of our favourite parts of the room is of course the beds. They gave us 2 single beds which is quite huge enough to be considered as double. Its high and very neat which we loved. Blankets, Mattress and Pillows were clean, soft, smooth and thick enough to keep you warm and comfortable. There is a wooden bed headrest with a light brown soft cushion to protect your head - which we are very impressed thinking about safety first for their customers. There is a classic wall mounted Bed lamps on each side of the bed and a side table in the middle where the phone is located. Power outlets are located at the headrest side of each bed which again is a plus for us as well as one near the TV and in the toilet. WIFI is quite fast but our data is equally the same. There is a black out curtain and a sliding door to open to your balcony. No chairs provided here and the walls are chest high so you need to stand up to see the view below. There are hooks on both sides of the wall here where you could dry up your wet swimming clothes. The view of the pool and garden below are lovely and scenic but we don’t have the view of Tumon Bay just the interior. We took some lovely shots here especially the dazzling brilliant suns of Guam.

Next is our daily buffet breakfast for 3 days which we adored and looking forward daily. Located at their in-house Rootz Grill restaurant at the lobby it has a cool, chillax, rustic vibe - simple and spacious. They offer classic American and some twist of Asian breakfast items in particular some Filipino and Japanese menu on offer. There’s a salad bar, bread counter, eggs, yoghurt/cereals/milk, soups, rice, noodles, deserts, beverages like juices, milk, tea and fruits. Each day they change the main courses especially their meat, fish and rice options. First day, there are Fried Bangus or Milk Fish and Longganisa or Pork sausage which were both fried to juicyness and perfection and their very yummy plus the local Chamorro Fried Rice. On the 2nd day, I particularly recalled Lechon was served, a classic Filipino/Spanish dish that is Roasted Pork cripsed to perfection very tender and juicy in the inside and crispy, crunchy on the outside. Umm, that was the best lechon I’ve ever tried after a long time. And on our 3rd day, there is Chop Seuy or Mixed Stewed Veggies and Sweet Ham. Of course, their delectable coffee is always freshly brewed and unlimited. Each and every morning we are all very full, happy and satisified it was really a good decision to include breakfast in our booking especially the prices of food in Guam is a bit expensive even if you buy in convenience stores. Kudos for your delish and satisfying breakfast options Guam Plaza Resort!!! :=)

Finally, before we checked out I didn’t miss the chance to try their Pool and Gym. The Gym is located right in front of the pool so you need to get out in the garden area. It is massive with all the Gym equipment you need right in front of you and they provide all the complimentary towels and water for your workout. The only thing is I cannot see the outside view from the gym so it would have been better to be able to see the Garden and Pool while you’re having your workout. And their outdoor pools which are also equally Amazing!!! It was big enough to accomodate many guest and have a couple of sun loungers plus have a basketball net to play with. There is also a kiddie pool or Jacuzzi right beside it because I could not tell which one it is will try next time hehe. Even though their Garden area is a bit rustic the area and pool are very clean, neat and well maintained. Water is clean and not cold perfect to swim in the afternoon sun. But wait what’s more interesting is their Yellow Green shower which when you pull down water will rain in - amazing first time I’ve seen a shower made this way.

Just like we checked-in, checking out was easy as a bee. We decided to transfer to beach front hotel on our last day in Guam but the memories and experiences we had at Guam Plaza Hotel will surely stamp in our hearts and minds which will surely last forever. We indeed felt very special, happy and relaxed staying for 3 nights at Guam Plaza, there’s nothing more we could have hoped for making our first time trip to Guam very memorable and worthwhile!!! Next time we visit Guam, this will be our first choice again and will try their Nana’s Cafe next time which is located beachfront. Keep up the Exceptional work Guam Plaza Resort & Spa we will surely book your place again and recommend to our families and friends who plan to visit Guam. Hafa Adai Guam Plaza Hotel!!!! :=)

Room tip: Book you room with breakfast, bring slippers, sunblock because the beach and the sun is just around the corner. Housekeeping is upon request

Comfortable enough, but not a really good choice for a layover as the cab far for the short trip to the airport is about $30 each way, negating the otherwise reasonable price of this hotel.

Very cooperative staff, and an impressive choice of onsite restaurants for those planning a longer stay. Still, it has quite a dated, almost institutional feel to it.

Room tip: Not a great spot for an overnight layover - an expensive taxi from the airport and breakfast isn't served until 0630

Nice, comfortable and clean hotel with just enough amenities and attractions on site. There's a small convenient store with snacks, drinks, sandwiches, a tourist shop nearby. This hotel was close to shops and restaurants in Tumon. The only downside to my experience was finding parking at night, and that my room was at the end of the hall. Otherwise, customer service was satisfactory, and I look forward to returning to this hotel again.
