Old Hotel But Good Enough For The Price

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 8 Aug 2019via mobile
Oceanview is an old hotel but its location is good, room is clean & spacious, with a reasonable rate.

Upon arrival/entry, you'll immediately see that the hotel needs updating, most especially the reception area. Even the front desk staff's uniform needs to be improved.

There are two areas - The Garden Court & the Condominium. The Garden Court has been renovated and is nearer the parking area so I guess this is a good option. It also has a vendo & ice machine on the hallway. There's a nice courtyard, too. I did not see the room here, though, as we were booked in the condo. We tried requesting for a transfer but it was fully booked.

The Condo is due for renovation. The common area/hallway was not pleasant at all. As soon as we entered the elevator & got out of it going to our room, we were disappointed. The standard room, however, is large, with 2 queen-sized beds, a big sofa & center table, a refrigerator, small dining table with 2 chairs, a closet, & enough space for the luggages. There is also a pantry with microwave oven & coffee maker. The best part is the nice view of the ocean. We were told that this is the Condominium's advantage over the Garden Court.

The room was kept clean. Housekeeping cleaned it daily during the period of our stay, but there was a lingering weird smell in the toilet & bath but not too strong so we were not bothered much by it. The beds are comfortable. Everything really needs updating & refurbishing, though. There are also stains on one corner of our room's ceiling. The TV's remote control was not working when we came in. It had to be replaced because it was not the right one. Good thing service was prompt when requested.

We heard renovation on the rest of the hotel will be done soon or have actually started because we could hear some construction work somewhere near our room as early as 9 am, another reason why we requested for transfer to the Garden Court. Nevertheless, we were practically out the entire day so it was just okay.

Yes, it's an uphill climb going to the hotel so if you have a problem with it, the best option is to bring/rent a car like we did. It's also recommended in Guam as taxis are expensive and not that easy to flag one. Shuttles are available to & from some tourist attractions & shopping areas but on schedule. Renting a car is easy with the hotel. Just make sure you have your driver's license with you. However, if you're booked at the condo & couldn't get a parking space outside the hotel's main entrance, it would be quite a walk to your room.

The hotel has a restaurant. However, it opens late for breakfast. Before we checked out on a Saturday, we wanted to have breakfast but it was still closed & would open at 9 am yet.

Locationwise, it's just walking distance to the beach and many restaurants including a 24-hour McDonalds. T Galleria, a duty-free shopping mall, and The Plaza shopping center are also nearby. All in less than a kilometer distance (approx. 500 to 600 meters from the hotel). There's also a mini amusement park beside the hotel. Shuttle to & from the airport is available. Just book in advance. Rate is also better than taxis.

If you're on a budget & will be out shopping or swimming most of the time, anyway, Oceanview would be a good choice considering its location & price, but better book a room at the Garden Court if the Condominium has not been renovated. If you're after the view, opt for the Condominium instead. For the price that we paid for, I think it's good enough.

I really wanted to enjoy Oceanview, but there was just so much taking away from the experience. Our main issue was the AC in our room, which was beyond freezing. We asked the hotel how we could fix it and found out we couldn't, because the temperature was set for the entire hotel and there was nothing they could do about it. After we complained again, they "fixed" it by placing a cardboard in front of the AC, which obviously didn't solve much and made it look just so ridiculous. Another issue we had was that in two days of our stay we didn't get housekeeping. They simply didn't show up, including one day that we left at 9am and returned at 6pm. The hotel location is ok - it's close to Guam's main street but it's a quite steep climb. The pool is really simply and definitely not as nice as the pictures make it look like. On the bright side, the room was quite spacious and clean (that is, when housekeeping showed up). A lot of parking space also helped.

My partner and I enjoyed our stay. The thing we loved the most was the ease of parking - since we were at the lower building (standard rooms), parking was less than a minute walk from our room. (They close the gates by 10pm for this certain parking.) Wifi signals are strong in all areas at the hotel. All the staff were entirely friendly and helpful. The location is surrounded by tons of restaurants, which saved us the drive. The restaurant in the hotel (Chamoru-Tei) is very cheap, and very good! (Breakfast) also, very good service.

Although, getting a standard room here means you'll get a room with connecting doors - plus, the walls in these units are completely thin. My partner and I wanted a quiet getaway and let me say, we heard 'EVERYTHING' - from the ones connected to us, to the ones across us, to the ones at the other side of the hall. A lot of footsteps and door slamming! We heard every bit of conversations our neighbors had. The walls are so thin, It sounded like everyone was yelling at each other.

Beside from the noise, Front Desk were completely helpful and managed to switch our rooms to another floor. It was so quiet, we felt like the only ones on the floor - which was incredibly good!

I would definitely come here again and would recommend. Although, hopefully get a quieter room away from everyone.

This hotel pictures are not what they appear at all. I toured this location. I wanted to transfer to this hotel. However, it was in a mediocre stage. The lobby , the elevator, and the rooms are in need of repair and updates.

Room tip: See before you book it.

The hotel was bit old, but relatively well-maintained. The room was spacious, and plenty of storage space, since this is built for residence. The view from the seventh floor was gorgeous. Hotel staff was very responsive to our request. If you have children and do not want to book two rooms by the beach, this is a nice alternative. Drain may clog up time to time, because this is a bit old hotel, and many customer flush sand down the drain. Hotel was responsive to our plumbing problem.

Large but basic room in the annex part of the Hotel. Very quiet room (after we pulled the plug on the fridge) but drab furnishings. Public areas also basic with little comfort. Situated on a hill away from the beach but did have an adequate swimming pool. On-site restaurant was ok but nothing special. Good for a night or two but wouldn't recommend from a holiday.
