A good hotel with a great location

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 14 Mar 2019
We stayed in this hotel because of the location. It is very central. A convenience store is nearby, the bus stop and many fast food joints. The hotel is a bit old, so we did not expect much from the room nor the bathroom. Everything was adequate. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our stay.
Date of stay: December 2018
Room Tip: It is a long hotel, so ask for a room near the elevators.

It was our first time in Guam and the hotel was close to a lot of eating places, duty free shops and a convenience store (ABC Store). We were with a host family so we never experienced having to take a taxi to visit the sites. But we noticed, every place was about 10-15 minutes drive from Pacific Bay. It was a breeze walking to upper Tumon, where the action was especially at night time. T Galleria (DFS) and all the signature stores were a mere 10 minute walk from our hotel. Plenty of eateries, from nooks to 5-start hotels like the Dusit Thani and Outrigger Beach Resort! We didnt get a chance to enter the Underwater World since it closes at 6pm. But if you intend to go to Guam Premiere Outlet (GPO), there's a yellow bus that one can take from Tumon Sands Plaza (a 5 minute walk from Pacific Bay) and it's FREE!

Though hotel has been there for quite some (old hotel) time, we were impressed by its cleanliness, friendly staff, and spaciousness. Our room was big with a comfortable King-sized bed! It has a refrigerator, a safety deposit box, adequate cabinet for clothes and plenty of drawers to keep stuffs in. Though its environment friendly, they chose to change our towels everyday and made our beds so regularly! A perfect place to rest tired legs after all-day walking! Make sure you wear comfortable beach shoes, flipflops or rubber shoes.. you don't know where you're feet may bring you!

Room tip: it was quiet all the time (even in lobbies) but we were booked at the 4th floor.

The location of the hotel is great. The centre is within walking distance and Micronesia Mall is about 20 minutes walk.
The rooms are large and clean. The bathroom needs renovations, showers have gone past their use by date.
The major downside is internet. Free internet is available in the lobby area, and it does not always work well. There is a $5 charge if you want to access internet in your room. The description of the hotel states 'free wifi'. On hotels.com the property description starts with "With free Wi-Fi". Perhaps the property should make it clear the conditions for accessing free wifi because it is not entirely free.

Remember, most hotels on Guam are older buildings, so unless you stay at one of the newest hotels, the rooms will be old, the carpets smudgy, the towels and sheets worn out, and the amenities sparse. The Pacific Bay Hotel is no exception but the location is excellent, with a short walk to the beach, shopping, and many restaurants. They provide a personal safe, a refrigerator, a TV, a working shower, 2 large beds, and very unstable WiFi. If that's all you need, like I do, this is a good choice.

The Pacific Bay Hotel is close (within short walking distance) to the beach, bus stops and a range of restaurants/bars. Although the hotel is a little aged, the rooms are clean and comfortable. The staff are also friendly and helpful. If you are on a budget, the money I saved on accomadation made it worthwhile staying here.
