Feels like an apartment complex

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 16 Feb 2020
I booked this online in advance, needing a place to stay for the night before the plane home. Driving up, I notice parking spaces are numbered, like an apartment complex. Entering the building, I see a note about tenants, again like an apartment complex, making it seem like I made a mistake. Talking to the desk clerk, he informs me of a $100 security deposit and well as a long list of rules (including no parties- not an issue), something most hotels do not have, as well as my assigned parking space. I agree and he tells me I can’t check in until 2PM. It’s ten to two... there’s no room available between now and then? I also notice the desk closes at night and doesn’t open until 9AM, with no service (and I assume no check-in) on Sunday. He informs me to leave the key in my room safe for early check out.

2PM hits and I enter my room just to the left of the desk. It’s an outside entryway, and all doors face the courtyard and outdoor pool. A semi-outdoor laundry is also nearby.

Entering the room, it feels like a small studio apartment or college dorm. Shelving, kitchenette with pots, glasses, etc. next to a bed. TV is flatscreen. No alarm clock. Room safe. The bed is fairly soft. Air is central. Very plain looking room with not even a picture on the wall. At least it’s clean.

I did have a very difficult sleeping due to the loud noise outside from other guests and the pool. The walls are paper thin.

Bathroom is decent size, but there is no marked shower area! There is a shower head and curtain, however water doesn’t stay in a tub or floor area- it goes wherever it wants to a drain! Even with a towel down the floor became very wet. I was worried I may fall.

The next morning, I left the key in the safe and locked the door. Sure enough, the desk was closed with only a vending machine available, and drinks only.

My deposit was refunded a few days later.

The rate was around $71. While I did not sleep well at all, to pay that kind of price for a clean room on Guam isn’t bad. I wouldn’t recommend for more than one night.

I wouldn’t be surprised if some people actually do reside here.

We stayed two nights at the Mai'Ana Airport Plaza in a two bedroom room. The room had a full kitchen - full size ref, not a little mini ref - and four burner stove, All dishes and cookware was in the room. We saved a lot of money by simply preparing a few meals right in the room. This room fit us perfectly since there were four of us. Each bedroom had two twin size beds but I think some other rooms have a queen and two twins. The picture of the swimming pool on the website makes it look big but it is smaller but quite nice and no complaint there. It is less than five minutes from the airport but we heard no noise from airplanes taking off or landing. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Free wifi in the room was very fast, running a steady 3 MB. We rented a car from Ace Toyota which is one minute walk from the hotel. All in all, this hotel is very good value for a family or group traveling to Guam.

I booked this hotel because I needed a place to stay and anticipated i would get bumped off a flight and get left behind in Guam on our way to the Philippines. For what we found it for on Expedia, I was not expecting much. But both my wife and I were pleasantly surprised at the great value this place provided and more than value , the great service given by the staff. It is literally a 20 minute walk downhill from the airport. We were told that a cab ride would cost $20.00 and i wasn't about to pay that much to go a mile. i should warn that there are no sidewalks on the way down this hill so one must walk on the shoulder of the road that leads down in the direction of the Home Depot which is right behind the property. They do have a courtesy shuttle that will not pick up from the airport, but they will take you down to their sister hotel where there happens to be a CPK which was very nice of them to offer and we took them up on it. In the morning the staff also arranged to have a cab pick us up from the hotel which ended up costing only $6.00 to get us up the hill. The place was clean and the bed comfortable. The room had a mini kitchen with stove , sink, and fridge. The A/C ducting was fully visible but was a welcome comfort for a good night's sleep. The bathroom had very little pressure but the warm shower was really great to have. The free Wifi worked really well. They had a laundry room downstairs. It looked a lot like an apartment complex. I would stay here again.

This hotel is being fixed up, and is much better than prior reviews suggest. The rooms are big and fairly basic, but are clean and very functional. The staff were great and the new free shuttle to KMart and the waterfront took away from the previous poor connectivity and lack of restaraunt/bar/store. The Internet was super fast. My only negative was that the front actually charges your credit card for a security deposit, as opposed to just holding it. If you have a non US $ credit card you always lose a few $ because of the credit card companies exchange charges, differernt rates for charging and for credits. Best to leave a cash deposit

We stayed in a 3 bedroom unit for $100 a night. You can not beat the price, the beds were not the best, the kitchen did what I needed it for, the bath room does not appear to have been updated during the recent upgrade. The pool was great, very friendly staff, and close to the airport. This place is fine but not a 5 star on Tumon beach, it was a great beach hub for my family for a week , wanted to spend my extra savings enjoying Guam not the hotel room.

Room tip: 1st floor is the best!
