Comfortable and cosy hotel specially for Japanese

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 21 Mar 2019
I've once been to Guam in 2002. At that time, I already finished sight seeing for Yokoi Cave, Two Lovers Point etc. This time, the main purpose was just for visiting Micronesia, Fiji, Tuvalu, Wallis after Guam. I stayed at this hotel for two nights. The hotel is located at the north end of Tumon Bay and it is almost 15-20-minute walk from city center. From my room (No. 735) I could see many hotels over Tumon Bay. There was the Japanese restaurant called as Benkei and others , and convenience store in the hotel. Japanese are working as the concierge. It's a very comfortable hotel for Japanese. I had a free day in Guam, and I visited Statue of Liverty located at Hagatna. To go there, I bought one day ticket for Red Shuttle bus. It was very usefull. I took a bus at the bus stop in front of the hotel and changed at GPO (Guam Premier Outlets) to an another bus to Hagatna S/C. I took lunch at the Japanese restaurant in GPO and came back to city center by a shuttle bus. Then, I went also to Micronesia Mall. I took dinner at Benkei restaurant in the hotel.

Room Tip: view hotels in city center over Tumon Bay (almost rooms meet this condition)

Unfortunately, I stayed 7 nights at the Nikko Guam hotel in January of 2019. At the time of check-in I noticed a musty smell that I hoped was contained to the lobby. I initially dismissed the smell and assumed it was due to the pool or humid climate.....

The person working the front desk notified that I had been upgraded to a different room when I was checking in. The room I was upgraded to was on the 14th floor which also smelled musty. When entering the room I again noticed the strong musty smell, I then noticed the teal colored carpet that was thoroughly stained. I did not feel comfortable walking on the carpet so I made sure to keep shoes or socks on at all times. Next, I entered the bathroom and saw the dirty shower/tub combination and drain that was broken. The water pressure was also a problem.

Lastly, the bed and sheets. The bed was very, very firm. I like firm beds but this was like sleeping on hard wood floors. The sheets had stains on them when I arrived to the room. I requested the sheets get changed but instead the housekeeping service decided to leave the same sheets on and make the bed. Unfortunately, the sheets had very recognizable stains which allowed me the confidence to know they were never changed.

In short - I will never stay at this hotel again due to the uncleanliness and poor service.

Room tip: Don't stay here.

After check-out,I remembered to put my dress in the closet. So,I went back to the hotel to bring my dress that day. But I couldn't find out my dress. . . They said there wasn't my dress. . ;;;;I was embarassed by that situation..
While I was staying there, they didn't make my room too. . .

I recommeded, if you want to stay tje hotel, you have to keep your baggage locking it.

Could not ask for a better ocean view. And staff are great. However, the carpet is warm, fixtures are carroded and grout in bathroom needs cleaning. Also hotel charges for everything. Even charges for bathrobes to go to pool. Also charges for drinking water as drinking tap water on Guam not advised.

Pitty, this is the word that comes to mind about hotel nikko Guam - for a Japanese managed hotel I find it even more abhorrent.
The good, It’s beach and the vistas from the rooms are breathtakingly incredible - but that’s it.
The bad, hotel itself is completely in shambles.
The staff clearly have their hands tied by senior management.
The ceiling of the check in counter had clear water leakage and even black mold scattered.
When we got to the room, the carpet the sheets were all moist and damp. The ceiling of the bathroom had black mold and the tiles were covered in soap scum.
Just not good at all.
The water was “complimentary” but only for the first night. I asked what if I check in every day? They would only say see the front desk, IOW, this is what they were instructed to do.
Then on the final day when we checked out, it was pouring torrential rain, snapped this photo of the indoor hallways with water leaching from the ceiling and wall and soaking the carpet. Green algae had grown on the room windows which shows they haven’t been cleaned in ages. If this is how nikko shows itself, then what of the unseen places?
Thus, pitty, the place has the means to be five star, but it is not in anyway at all h. Hell, I’ve La Quinta is better.
Hence at best one star.

This hotel is a bit far away from the restaurants and shopping centre. Free shuttle is available but you have to wait at the entrance in high temperature. I do not feel safe to walk at evening time because the route is rather quiet, though I was told that walking in day time would be safe. It may be better to take taxi or rent a car if you want to take dinner outside, restaurants are available inside the hotel. The beach is not a good location, it is a coral reef beach which is wavy and shallow, you may easily get hurt. Beaches of hotels nearby are much better for swimming. The design of the hotel is so special that almost all rooms (or maybe all rooms) face the sea so the view is quite good. Room and public area are clean, though bath room looks old with mildew. Room supplies and cleaning are not consistent, bottled water is not supplied everyday and cleaning is sometimes quite late in the day. Thermostat did not work well, it stayed cold all the time. The room service staff left me a note to ask front desk for bottled water myself. The Crystal Chapel is an attractive spot but it is not open to the public not even the hotel guests. Staff are nice.

Room tip: Rooms on the west will have better sunset view.
