“The most perfect Maui retreat ever!”

Our sixth stay in wonderful Whispering Bamboo Cottage was as perfect as in each of our previous visits! We were welcomed with organic papayas, avocados, and eggs by the caretaker of this spectacular property. The cottage is beautiful designed and decorated and has every possible amenity including a recently remodeled kitchen and huge walk-in shower. The cottage is filled with the aloha spirit and energy of the owners Anjali and Ken as well as their caretakers Jace and Renee. We were treated to spectacular sunsets, star-filled night skies, the sound of the wind and the calls of birds. The cottage has two large bedrooms, a dining area, living room with sofa bed, and so much more. A spectacular swimming pool, spacious grounds, and yoga hut are available to all guests. Located about 8 miles East of Paia at the beginning of the road to Hana, the solitude, beauty and comfort of this lovely cottage cannot be outdone.

“Green but pricey”

We stayed twice during our trip, once as a couple and once with our two adult daughters. The reason I selected the place is that it is managed pesticide free. On this account, I give it high marks, as not only the grounds are managed pesticide free, but all the cleaning supplies, including laundry were green and without irritating synthetic fragrance. It is a very quiet place, off the beginning of the Hana highway and is a good location to explore that side of the island. It was easy to find with a smart phone after dark, about 20-25 minutes from the airport.

On the other hand, compared with other places we stayed, it was pricey. The second bedroom requires coming outside to the one bedroom apartment a few steps to access a bathroom and any water. The cost for the two rooms was 3/4 of what we paid in Kehei for a magnificent four bedroom home, also managed pesticide free, which we shared with extended family during the rest of our trip. The cleaning fee als seemed high given that we were asked to take out trash, strip bids and wash dishes.( which I don't mind doing in general.)

I find the " would you recommend" question difficult to answer. If my friend wanted to be on this side of the island, in a green, quiet property and money wasn't an issue, I would say yes.

Management Response
2 Mar 2016
The price for one night stay is more than a seven night stay. We accommodated the guests request to stay for only one night against our policy of a minimum of 5 nights. They failed to consider this factor in their review though we provided a one night stay for them so that they could be 20-25 minutes away from the airport after being elsewhere in Maui for seven nights.

“Peaceful Hawaiian getaway”

We really enjoyed our four days at this beautiful, peaceful Hawaiian "estate" retreat. Wish we could have stayed longer!
The rooms we rented (Bedroom, bath, kitchen/dining/living room), were clean, nicely furnished in Hawaiian style, and subtly decorated with ocean themed wall murals. (A second, connected bedroom is available if needed).
The grounds included an expansive, lovely lawn, with ocean views, a delightful swimming pool with a cabana, waterfall, and an abundance of tropical, flowering plants and trees. A slice of paradise, with great privacy. We enjoyed the quiet meditation "hut" for moments of yoga and meditation. All the sounds you can hear are the breezes and the song birds.
The location is rural, not far from the airport and shopping, beautiful beaches, and small towns, but a good distance from the touristy areas of the island. If you need to be right near where the action is, this might not be the spot for you, but for us, it was perfect!
Anyone, gay or straight, couples or families will all feel welcome here.
