If your idea of perfect is tons of screaming kids in a 400 room hotel, don't stay here. This is a luxury beachfront almost boutique hotel with 5 star accommodations and service. There is a nice lounge, great restaurant, but no rockin' night club. Employees could not be any friendlier.

Room Tip: 2nd or 3rd floor are best.

We began our 10 days in Hawaii with a 3-night stay at the Koa Kea. It was exactly what we needed to decompress and slow down, so we could appreciate and enjoy our surroundings. The resort is small, low key and a lovely place for couples who need to RELAX. It is understated and beautiful right on the ocean, but the swimming beaches are either to the left or the right of the hotel; an easy walk and accessible via a beachfront walkway. The pool is small, but uncrowded and you don't have to worry about finding a lounge chair under an umbrella. Children would be very bored at this hotel, so families with young children should definitely choose a large resort with all the activities available for them. There is an outdoor bar and grill by the pool for lunch or an early casual dinner, and the Red Salt Restaurant for breakfast and dinner. We had breakfast at Red Salt twice, which was wonderful, but wanted to try other restaurants in the area for dinner. The hotel staff members were extremely accommodating and friendly.

Room Tip: Our room had a "partial" ocean view and it was beautiful. You won't spend much time in your room; you walk outside and you're in heaven.

Yes, you can see the base of a former motel, but the renovation was very well done. Great pool and bar area, nicely appointed rooms, and helpful staff. Best attributes: the staff, and Red Salt restaurant. The worst attribute: the mattress; it's like a slab in the morgue.

From the moment we arrived we have been made to feel welcome. Our room overlooked the pool and we had the most amazing sea view from the area outside our room. The room was huge and clean, the bathroom too. The breakfast was fab and for $12 for eat as much as you like continental breakfast I can't see how previous reviews can say it's prices!! If you want wine with your dinner that is e pensive but meals aren't. A great hotl and we will definitely return.

So there are so definite pluses to this place:
Beautifully situated on the coast in Poipu. No major hustle and bustle of a million families and people around you. Very close to the actual beach. Some really nice people - good people in the restaurants, at the pool, and housekeeping is amazing. The food at the hotel is exceptional for hotel food but it's very pricey. The pool and hot tub are very nice.

They don't have a car or shuttle service to the nearby mall with shopping and restaurants - kinda strange for a 5 star as it's close but a bit of walk and a bit scary at night.

The front desk during the day is unfriendly. At night - super nice people. I was going to ask the concierge/tour desk to help me arrange a day trip but she was so unfriendly that I opted not to. There's no pool service. You actually have to go to the outdoor bar and order and they will bring you the food/drinks but no one will come around and ask you. Which for $700 a night made no sense to me. There was no bathtub in the rooms and the rooms were small (we are talking $700 a night). Very average bathroom. Nothing was luxurious but it was nice. If the price was $300 a night - totally amazing. But when you're asking from $450++ hard to justify. Definitely not the quality of high end boutique hotels or even larger ones such as the Ritz or Four Seasons.
