Sure am glad we took Keith's advise & rented a four wheel Jeep, it rained so much that the two streams we crossed were deep due to non-stop rain. My husband loved the rutted roads, the flooded streams and the complete darkness to get here at night...me, not so much. It's also farther to Hilo than I anticipated, 1/2 hr, then 15 more minutes to drive thru the back roads, ruts & streams.
Place is clean, well supplied and his daughter greeted us with warmth and knowledge about using the generator, wi-fi & satellite dish. Fun to see peacocks, chickens, roosters & horses in the yard. Also, fresh oranges every morning:)
Be sure to bring bug spray, I got bitten up a fair amount. When the rain stops (if), look out to the ocean view (gorgeous) and you r sure to see a rainbow! Loved sitting on the covered porch and listening to the rain. Off the beaten path, close to many waterfalls, so, worth the adventurous drive!
We were bouncing around the big island - two nights on the Hilo side, two near Volcanoe Nat'l Park and a couple of nights near Kano. Keith's home is stunning and it's obvious he cares deeply about what he's created. Really a place that deserves more than the two nights we could stay!
Nice house, just as advertised with beautiful views. Good for a family with plenty of space. Loved the waterfall, very peaceful to listen to. The instructions from Keith were easy to follow and led us right to his gate. The road is steep but very manageable with an SUV, just go slow. If you are looking for a quiet getaway away from crowds this is a good place.
This is a very well appointed off the grid house with beautiful woodworking a large covered deck, wonderful views, waterfalls and pools to swim in, fruit trees, and lots of other wildlife. You do need a Jeep to cross the streams but google maps took us right to the gate without a problem. Cell service is spotty at the house but better just down the road.
