Our stay at Mahana House was wonderful. We really felt at home. What a beautiful house in a magnificent Hawaiian landscape. The air is fresh and clear coming right off the ocean. Views are spectacular. Relaxation is unavoidable. The location is just far enough from Hilo to avoid the hustle and bustle of town but close enough to shopping and the airport to be convenient.
Randy and Alison have thought of everything a guest could possible need and want. The guest suites and main kitchen/living areas are so tastefully decorated and well stocked. Preparing meals in the main kitchen was easy with all the amenities you could possibly need and then some. We especially like the Sleep Number bed (just like home). There is a nice book collection which we enjoyed very much.
When returning to the Big Island, we will definitely re-visit Mahana House.
Gave Randy and Alison the excellence pin I've been holding onto for a couple of years now for the wonderful job of making you feel a welcomed guest. The room accommodations were spacious, clean and comfortable with the sleep number beds. Communications leading up to the stay were always timely and informative. The end unit was especially nice having window on the side giving extra ventilation since there is no air conditioning but with the ceiling fan provided enough coolness for sleeping.
The community kitchen that was available was spacious and modern and only ran into another person there one night of the stay. No need to run out and buy condiments since the refrigerator and cabinets are well stocked with essentials and cookware. In your room a container with coffee grinds and filters are provided which was nice.
Nice view of the ocean if it isn't raining from the lanai and excellent coverage if its pouring to sit out side. The landscaping is beautiful and fresh fruits for the taking are on a table to help yourself. Didn't have to buy bananas during the stay.
Directions to the place were easy even though its well tucked away on a back road. Very convenient to local attractions such as Akaka falls a few miles away.
Location puts itself out of any fumes from the volcano as that gas goes normally to the western part of the island and Kona areas.
Would recommend this stay to any couple without kids who want a quiet enjoyable stay.
