The Greenbrier doesn't disappoint. It is just one more thing for which to love West Virginia.

I find the decorating interesting. A bunch of otherwise ugly things put together and made elegant. Hmmm.

Main dining room is beautiful and very good.

This majestic resort was like taking a vacation back in time. Spacious sitting rooms and lounges stimulate (crystal chandeliers, riots of flowers and patterns, turquoise, emerald, corals, and so much more) and relax simultaneously. Décor, wallpaper, rugs and furnishings are bold and nearly over-the-top – very appealing. Walking into or looking into a room is a visual experience, like Alice and Wonderland’s rabbit hole, by way of Betsy Johnson and Mondrian.

Our room was comfortable, and although walls are thin, the people next door were usually not in. Service is hospitable; the woman with the large silver carafe of morning coffee is much appreciated. Because the resort is in a secluded area it is not a place for guests who like lots of planned activities. It would not be a place for children. Its golf course makes it attractive to golfers. It is a restful place for privacy and reflection, and for this reason is a good place for writers. Things to do include the bunker tour, golf, driving into the small town, and walking and hiking. At night there's a casino, bar, and outdoor firepits good for gathering around. The weather was nearly too cold for this; May and September are probably ideal months to visit, weatherwise.

Amazing girls weekends! We went from getting mud soaked on our UTV ride with Greenbrier Outdoor Adventures to a pristine dining experience in the Main Dining Room, Cafe Carleton and Casino. Ideal weekend for both adventure and leisure.

Room Tip: Cottage are the best with plenty of room and history.

With a Groupon deal, this weekend get-away is more affordable. Be prepared to walk- long hallways, massive hotel building! Service is beyond anything I have experienced before. Comfortable rooms, lots of activity options (some at no cost). Food was exceptional.

Room Tip: Ask for a room close to the lobby/ main entrance. It makes it easier to access after a long day of walking!
