Wow!!!! This Place was Amazing....

We need a higher rating system. We never imagined how much we would enjoy our visit to the Inn at Abbott Farm. What a terrific getaway from the Washington DC area. A week later my wife is still raving about her experiences at the Inn and the Lost River State Park. She never imagined how much she would enjoy gathering eggs from the hen house, assisting in the garden, horseback riding at the State Park or just wandering the grounds. The evening bonfire and Cauliflower Soup prepared by Chef Vincent was a superb bonus. Just watching Vincent in the kitchen was a learning experience (essentially a free cooking lesson). Lisa is a wonderful host and Eiko and I had a memorable experience. Thanks Lisa and Chef Vincent for making our trip such a memorable event.

The Inn at Abbott Farm is a hidden jewel! We went there for a Mother's Day weekend to get a break from city noise and commotion, and it was just a perfect place! Located in gorgeous rural area of WV, right by the creek and just a couple of miles away from the Lost River State park, the Inn is a perfect getaway. The owners, Lisa and Mike, are the sweetest people ever! And Lisa's farm-to-table breakfast is to die for! We stayed at the Doctor's Office, which is a separate building next to the main house. I love how the whole place has preserved its historic flair. The Inn itself was built in 1900! The house could easily be a museum!!! Mike gave us a tour of the house and the farm. Just wonderful! We enjoyed every minute of our stay. Looking forward to staying at their place again soon!

The two of us spent four nights here, and we didn't want to leave. We were in the Doctor's Office, which was cozy and comfortable. The bed was VERY comfortable. It is a fold out bed so I wasn't expecting it to be that great, but it was almost as comfy as my own bed at home. I arrived with a bit of back ache from travelling and it went away during my stay.

The Doctor's Office has a little kitchen and fridge, so you can make your own dinners. It also has a porch area overlooking the creek, with a bench and a porch swing, so we sat there in the evenings after a lovely day out hiking.

There are some home made toiletries provided, soap, body cream and bubble bath. They were all lovely. There was also Aveda shampoo provided. There is a lovely bathroom with a bath. Nice and relaxing when you've been walking all day.

The breakfasts were incredible. They make their own bacon, ham and sausage from the pigs raised on the farm and it is delicious. So good. Also there are fresh free range eggs from the chickens you wandering around. We had different breakfasts every day, all of them amazing. Also, every afternoon we got a tray of delicious snacks, which was wonderful.

This is the place to stay if you like animals. There are some cats, the chickens, pigs, and goats, and also two lovely dogs, Hazel and Opal, who became our friends during our stay.

Best of all are the hosts, Lisa and Bob, who were so friendly and helpful, and are just nice people to be around. I really hope to have the chance to stay again. I miss the place and I hope all the people and animals I met there are doing well.

This really is one of the best places I have every stayed.

This B&B has very good beds and a very good breakfast, and is located in a strategic location to explore the Lost River Valley in West Virginia, for example, the Lost River State Park, the craft shops and other attractions, for example a lake in a forest some 5 miles from the main road. The surrounding area is so beautiful, that we came back a few weeks later on a day trip - it seems like a different world from, well, from all that is outside the valley.

As to the B&B, it is decorated with different types of modern art and has a cozy library to watch television in. The spirit of the place is embodied by the owners, Lisa and Bob, who made us feel very welcome. Highly recommended for a 2-3 day escape from the city, or from anywhere.

This is the kind of B&B experience you often hear about but so seldom get to experience for yourself. Lisa and Bob have created something truly special in the heart of Lost River Valley. Before we even walked in the door we felt at home. Their adorable dog Opal greeted us a we drove up to the house. She would be our lovable, playful companion for the entire weekend-- along with the three cats who stayed up late with us by the fire. The house itself is a warm, cozy, stove-lit time capsule, dating to 1900, magnificently renovated and preserved. The kind of place you just want to curl up and wile the hours away with a good book. But of course there's so much do at the Inn and in the surrounding countryside. We spent the weekend hiking in the George Washington National Forest and the Lost River State Park, with some of the most spectacular views I've ever seen. But the real treat was coming back to the Inn for breakfast and dinner, where we were greeted with the spectacular meals cooked by Vincent-- which easily surpass what you'd find at some of the top-end restaurants in Washington DC or anywhere else in the region. You'll take extra comfort in knowing most of the food comes right from the farm and the surrounding region. Just steps from the front door you can find the adorable goats, pigs and chickens. I could go on and on, but needless to say the Inn has many, many attributes to recommend. I suggest you check it out for yourself before they're booked months and months in advance. A business this good won't be a secret for long.

Lisa & Bob have a great eye for furnishing, decorating and modernizing the old WV buildings on their "back to the land" dream farm. The "Smokehouse" where we stayed had great mix of old and modern. The bright sunny kitchen had everything needed for preparing meals, including salt, pepper, sugar, ground coffee and their own granola with half & half in the fridge. The B&B 9AM breakfast was hearty, and they also offered a very nice Saturday night dinner by their on-site chef - farm to table. Guests gather at the long farm table. Bob and Lisa warmly welcome all guests, and happily share knowledge about local sites and trails, and great stories. Best to book on their website. Website generally provides a good description of the place although the Smokehouse says up to 4/5 people - there one nice king bed and three very short and shorter daybeds - so maybe parents plus 3 children? A person 5 foot 5 inches can fit into the biggest day bed touching head and feet. It is a farm - so there are pigs and chickens outside, and we saw 4 wasps inside the building. Friendly dog Opal and several cats seemed to get along with the pet brought by other guest. Large sign on all entrance doors advises people to take off their shoes at the door. Lovely location just off a main road, behind a church. More passing vehicle noise than in the nearby Lost River State Park but staying on a farm is also a restful and pleasant location - like mixing the park experience with the farm and rural WV life experience. They have plans to add option of cooking classes soon.

Room tip: Smokehouse was great -- only has one large bed in the open upstairs, kitchenette, dining table, and large open bathroom downstairs.
