Cozy place with amazing staff

Recently stayed here while visiting a family member in CAMC memorial hospital. The hotel was a nine minute drive to the hospital due to construction. The hotel gives me a wilderness log cabin type feel. The staff was very friendly, and professional. The free morning breakfast was nice. The lady working in the breakfast room was very sweet and helpful. I stayed in room 201 it was clean and nice looking. It came with a mini cooler and microwave. Room was spacious, more than enough room for 4 people. The only CON was a few drawers in the room kept opening by themselves. If that is your only CON tho, you truly have nothing to complain about. I also felt bad about the noise my kids unintentionally made. I felt as if the person below us could hear it. If I would have thought about it sooner I would asked for a first floor room. I would stay here again and would recommend this hotel to others.

I normally enjoy my stays at CI&S. This was an exception. We brought our dog with us and, therefore, paid the extra dog fee. When we opened the door to the room we were hit in the face with strong dog odor!!! I understand it was a "dog room", but Come On! What does this company do with the additional money they get from the dog fee! They certainly don't use it for cleaning supplies! The privacy curtains had big holes in them. The bathroom mirror was filthy. Very disappointed in this hotel!

There again, the breakfast was great and the staff I encountered were pleasant and helpful. Special mention to Amy who helped us out. She is an asset to this hotel.

This property served its purpose as an overnight stay with easy access to freeway and someplace to have dinner. On the plus side: price was fair, staff was good as was the breakfast. On the minus: property was a bit tired, it is adjacent to a lower end hotel chain whose guests appeared a bit questionable as they continuously lurked outside their rooms (our view).
I would like to highly commend the wonderful lady who managed the breakfast area. This stay was night #13 of our 13-night road trip; #7 of 7 hotels during this trip. All 7 properties offered a complimentary breakfast.
The breakfast area at the Charleston Country Inn & Suites was by far the best managed of all seven breakfast experiences on our journey. The breakfast area was kept immaculately clean, food that should have been hot was hot and amidst running this breakfast operation, she could not have been more friendly and engaging. True Southern hospitality which was greatly appreciated.

The sheets had NOT been changed!!! We are not talking just stained but debris (multiple black pieces of something the size of a pencil eraser) and tons of hair all over. The room was filthy. There were crumbs of food everywhere. Their solution was to hand over different sheets. Filthy doesn't work for a 2 year old and a 5 year old. Not even a different room, just sheets. $113.00 for dirty beds and room. Was told the cleaner they have isn't doing a good job. Really? Not happy is an understatement.

I booked this hotel in July 2023 on the hotel's website which at the time purported to be operated by Radisson. I received a confirmation number and loyalty number from Radisson. Our travel dates changed and i was trying to modify my reservation by one day to arrive and depart earlier. I tried to modify the reservation from the link in my confirmation email. It did not work. It directed me to a number to call. When I called, I was routed to Choice Hotels customer service, and was told that the hotel had "locked" my reservation and they were unable to help me. They directed me to call the hotel directly to resolve the matter. I tried for two hours calling over and over again. No one would answer the phone. I twice heard someone pick up and then hang up on me. I called back Choice Hotels customer service line and informed them that I was unable to modify or cancel the reservation. Their representative met with the same results- trying to call the hotel and no-one would answer the phone. I was finally escalated to another customer relations representative who advised that I would be given a "case number" that I would need to use to call back the next day any time between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. I got up and called immediately starting at 7 a.m. The representative tried to call the hotel and initially got the same result- no answer. He came back and told me that if he could not get it resolved, I would just have to wait until the hotel charged my card to dispute it with the credit card company. UNACCEPTABLE. I told him that at this point I was no longer interested in trying to modify the reservation, but wanted to cancel it completely. He tried again to reach the hotel and finally was able to come back and let me know it was successfully cancelled. In all, it took almost 4 hours to resolve the issue.
The hotel's willful refusal to answer their phone and their malicious locking of the reservation shows that they are a dishonorable business. I would not stay here. I wouldn't even consider booking at this location. Read the rest of the reviews and see that it's not that great anyhow. It just seemed the "best" of a lot of really bad choices in that area. I guess that bar is set pretty low.
If you have to make any modifications, be prepared to fight tooth and nail to modify or cancel.

These hotels are usually very nice. We were looking for a nice hotel to consistently stay in as we visit North Carolina 2-3 times per year. We are not upscale people. Don't need fancy, but want clean and functioning. This hotel was neither. So many issues. Voiced concerns to Amy at the front desk. Little follow-through. She talked with Nichole and refunded $20. No one contacted me like they said they would. Some, but not all of the issues include no knob to turn (luke warm) hot tub on. My husband got a tool from our car to turn it. Jets didn't work. Pool and hot tub dirty. Pool area not locked. Chemical room in pool area not locked. Keys in the chemical room door. A lot of hair in our bathtub. Dirty walls (which wiped off with just a wet washcloth) in our bathroom; finger nail on the floor (full nail, like a press on). Are the rooms not vacuumed? Man that stays at the hotel for work on a regular basis said, "Oh the hot tubs not working AGAIN". Tiffany and Amy at the front desk both said the hot tub works. They don't know the difference between the pump running and the jets not working. Wires hanging out of the fitness room door which was also unlocked. Some of the equipment didn't work; some malfunctioned a lot. TV's didn't work in exercise room. Tiffany told my husband that she didn't think they ever worked. Why have them? We were told that there weren't any maintenance people there and there wouldn't be for the rest of our stay. No maintenance people? The sister hotel was right next door. No maintenance people there that could come over? Hotel was not worth $123.17. The $20 refund is offensive. Amy said John Bush, Assistant Manager, has the authority to do better than the $20. I have been unable to contact John. I'm not looking for a reply from the hotel stating they are sorry we weren't satisfied. I want someone to contact me and rectify the situation and the hotel has my phone and email. Didn't take pictures of the room, but have attached pictures of the fitness door and some from pool area.

Room tip: Don't stay here. 2 positives-breakfast was good and woman working the breakfast area was friendly and efficient. We appreciated her.
