Dirty

1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 5 Mar 2021
I will not stay again at this motel. The room needs a good cleaning from top to bottom. Garbage behind the bed and night stand. It looked like other contractors were staying there also but I would not stay again. It was close to my meeting and that was the reason to try it out.

I was referred to this hotel because I am a travel nurse at an area hospital. This hotel is not in a good area. There is a homeless shelter next door and they all hang out by the hotel. The room was dirty, stains on the carpets and walls. The bathroom was gross and the toilet constantly ran. I was told nurses would be on a separate floor so they weren't bothered. I was woken up at 4am my last night there by someone yelling and swearing on the phone in the hallway then went into the room next to me. Will never stay again and will tell people I know to not stay there. The only upside is the front desk people were nice and accommodating.

This is an inexpensive location that is good for a budget stay. My room was $75 per night. I booked using Expedia points and paid around $52/night. As others have commented, the room is a little dirty and dark. For example, the upholstered chairs have dirty spots on the armrest that need to be shampooed.

They did serve free breakfast during COVID-19. It was a very limited breakfast. It was coffee, juices in a plastic container, milk, cereal, and some breakfast cakes and pastries. No fruit options. No free water. They do have a vending machine and I was able to purchase bottled water and candy.

The people of Charleston, West Virginia are among the friendliest that I have met in the South. The staff was very friendly and aims to please. They immediately accommodated a room change request. I was first situated near a family with a loud screaming child. They switched me to a quieter room. Both rooms are pictured in my review. The room has a coffee machine and refrigerator. They gave alcohol wipes to clean the TV remote during COVID-19.

I felt the hotel was safe for a solo stay for a female. The door had a deadbolt.

By my standards as a New Yorker everything was within walking distance to the downtown area. I was near the city center, the Haddad Riverfront Park, restaurants, the Post Office, FedEx Kinkos, Capital Street, the Clay Center, and Capitol Market. I was able to walk to Tudor’s Biscuits World in 20 minutes and saw a pharmacy on the way.

The location is close to the Amtrak station. It is on the other side of the river. You could walk across the bridge to get to the hotel. I would estimate it is a 25-30 minute walk to get to the Amtrak station. It is hard to get a taxi in Charleston, West Virginia. I had trouble getting a taxi on Sunday morning to catch my Amtrak train. However, I eventually got a Lyft ride. Keep in mind this is the Bible belt of the south. So it is hard to travel by taxi on Sundays. Plan ahead so you don’t get stranded like I almost did! Maybe make a car service reservation.

First of all the place is being renovated. It is in desperate need of it. The place is dark and appears worn out. $80 per night seems about right. Our room was very well used. The toilet was leaking at the base. The furniture was scarred and worn out. That being said, the room was clean and the TV was big and nice. The desk clerk was very helpful.

First Room base lamp receptacles internals we’re missing & lan phone was missing all function buttons & labling so I requested another room.

Only receptionist on duty was terribly inexperienced, was not very customer friendly/accommodating , and shouldn’t have been left alone until properly trained.

Second Rooms toilet seat was dirty and failed to flush, requiring a maintenance visit.
Shower curtain was too short, Drapes were a foot too long, TV listing was out of date, telephone labeling was incorrect, HVAC Receptacle box was hanging outside the wall, Bathroom tile and wallpaper was outdated, refrigerator froze my vegetables, and furniture was dated. But TV and bed were updated & great and I slept like a baby.

Outdoor pool and fitness center was closed and I had hoped to use both. No jacuzzi either.

Not the Quality I expected

I stayed here for one night while traveling through Charleston, WV. The room was very nice and clean, with a comfortable bed and pillows and a good-sized closet and TV. This hotel is conveniently located off of its I-64 exit and is close to the Clay Center, the post office, and some of the main areas of downtown Charleston. A small waffles/eggs/sausage/cereals/bakery items breakfast with coffee and tea was offered in the morning in an area off of the reception desk that had adequate seating with wall-mounted televisions. Parking was generally good, although a little crowded, and I was advised that the lot shared with the hotel next door could be utilized for parking, if needed. We would consider this hotel again for a future trip to the area.
