Really well positioned for exploring the area. Good food with really friendly and helpful staff. There is a shuttle bus to Pahia but my wife and I strolled it in around 15 minutes and it's a nice walk. Good selection of food for breakfast something for everyone.

Hi, my wife and I went to the Copthorne Waitangi on Saturday to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I should mention that we haven't stayed there since 2014 as we got a much more favorable corporate rate at the Paihia Beach Resort. Anyway, we stayed at the Copthorne, because this is where we stayed when we got married. OMG what a mistake. The hotel has gone from a customer service model, to a bean counter, save as much money where ever you can model. We got there at 12 noon and were told that the room would not be ready until 2pm. Not a problem, you would have thought the management would have said, look, you can enjoy the bar and restaurant or indeed the pool and spa while you wait...WRONG!! No, we were simply told to come back later. So we just went to the bar ourselves.....OMG what a mistake, there were so many flies that it so unpleasant to be there we left.....swarms of flies, everywhere in what is the flagship hotel in Paihia.....DISGUSTING and with tech today, absolutely no need for it. Management were completely oblivious to it.
Now we pick up the keys and go to our room......wow, the view is spectacular as normal, but in their effort to save money, they have simply taken the taps off the bath and left gaping holes. The shower head has been replaced for a water saver one (which I applaud) but this one.....well, I could P@#S harder.
Now, where once you could access the pool easy, you now have to use your room key and are there boxes of towels there as there used to be.....NAH....don't be silly, you have to get them from reception.....oh and if you don't have them back by 10pm that same night.....$27.00/towel is billed to your room.....Yep, 27.00/room for manky old towels we would throw out at home.......Now we wake on Sunday morning.....ahhh coffee.......only 2 of those silly little uht milks.......Don't drink more than one coffee!!!
So we thought, ok, we'll see if we can get a late check out......something we have never had a problem getting anywhere in the world.....Not at the Copthorne Waitangi you won't.....oh know they want every room to check out at 10am.......RESULT.....you guessed it.....Ques out the door of people waiting to check out.......ANGRY and UPSET ques of people. We went away, got a bite to eat and went back 45 minutes later and the que was still out the door.......40 minutes later we finally paid our account and left. This whole experience was fascicle and I know we were not the only people who thought that......We had a long time to chat with others in the que.
The Copthorne was the go to place for luxury and indulgence....but the NEW management team are doing everything they can to save money at the expense of the client. No longer are they there for the client, the client is now there for them.
I do not know who owns the Copthorne Waitangi, but they need to take a serious look at the people who are now managing it and it needs to be done now, before it is too late. We were disgusted by the service, the flies and the penny pinching attitude of the management team.....OH and lets not forget the arrogance......we told the manager we would be writing a review on tripadvisor to let everyone know what was wrong with the place......do you know what he said.....he said what would you have to complain about......now simply saying that, shows you why they are currently in this position.....if the manager doesn't think there is anything wrong.....wow, that really is telling.
Our advice......stay somewhere else.

Good Evening. Thank you for providing feedback about your stay with us. I am sorry that your stay did not meet with expectations. I shall pass on the specific points mentioned in your review to all the management team. I would however like to respond to a number of these comments especially those around the continual barraging of "The Management" which I am a proud member of and one who works with the other members of the management team to strive to exceed our guests expectation which I am proud to say we frequently do on countless occasions. Our check in is from 2.00pm and our check out is 10.00am. We receive many guests who require earlier access than this and later departure. Though we would like to meet these requests, due to the tight turn around we face which is solely down to the current NZ hotel industry experiencing a large shortage of staff we are regrettably unable to grant such requests. However our guests are more than welcome to use our extensive facilities pre and post stay which include the pool, bar and restaurant at no additional cost. We have recently increased our security around the pool area so that our guests and only our guests have access to this area. We have previously offered towels at poolside but due to the number which fail to be returned we regrettably ceased this process and were forced to charge a Bond, not a fixed charge billed to a room, when towels were handed out so we could ensure these would then be returned. 99% of the time this bond is not charged direct to a guest. Due to the hotels location on a reserve in a sub-tropical environment along with this summer being a lot hotter than usual we have experienced a higher than usual number of ants and insects. Each report of such events are passed onto our pest control contractors and are then acted upon. We as a team have been doing our best on top to control this epidemic with only little success. We have also been in contact with other accommodation suppliers and restaurants in the area and they have been experience similar levels of infestations. Regarding our rooms, I can ensure you that none of our bathrooms have gaping holes in the walls and the wing that you were allocated too is prone to lower water pressure than others regrettably. All these rooms are serviced daily and are usually provided with a number of mini UHT milks with fresh milk being available on request. Obviously the number left for you was less than usual and for this over site I can apologise for. On your day of departure we experienced a very large check out and due to the staff shortages which I have previously commented about we were unable to have the levels of staffing we would have liked. This regrettably situation is down to availability of skilled workers and not penny pinching which in your opinion is rife within this hotel. This is further from the truth as our entire management team are working along side our staff on the floor in an effort to bridge the gaps we have in our teams. I find it hard to believe that one of my Duty Managers who I have personally trained would have an attitude such as this towards any guest. In fact we have recently been receiving a number of positive feedbacks including personal letters to the General Manager thanking our Duty Managers for dealing with situations encountered outside of the hotels control. I am sorry that delays at check in and check out, miscommunication around our towel policy and our housekeeping team under allocating your room with UHT milk sachets have left such an overly underwhelming and bitter taste which has resulted in such a scathingly negative review. Regards, Matthew Hambly, Rooms Division Manager.

The Copthorne Hotel is in a beautiful position overlooking the sea. There was an error in our booking, the booking company had made it for next month. The staff could only fit us in for one night which we were grateful for after a long dive. The staff were extremely helpful and phoned around other hotels. They managed to get us into another hotel for two nights.

Room Tip: From what I saw all rooms have a sea view and lawned area.

From our check in to seeing our room overlooking the Bay we knew we were in for a great weekend. Our room was spacious with a verandah [that could be closed in]
lovely bar "Happy Hour" plus a restaurant with ample selection for dinner. The staff are most friendly & helpful. Throw in the pool area & views of the Ships that cruise in we actually got to see the new cruise Ship the Queen Elizabeth

Room Tip: Ground floor over looking the grass area & views out to the islands
