It's no Paris Patisserie for obvious reasons, but it is still a lovely place, the quality, service, coffee and treats yummy.
On the way out of town I couldn't resist stopping and introducing the group to the best chocolate in New Zealand. I have photos of them with looks on their faces like cats that have got the cream. Coffee and hot chocolates with goodies from the cafe and then pressies to take home for ourselves. Don't miss it.
Thank you so much for your kind compliments. Everyone at Makana appreciates your remarks. The entire team has worked very hard to make it the best and your positive feedback is very welcome.
The chocolates, desserts and pastries are delightful and it is unique experience when you can see them being made right in front of you but I have to agree with some of the comments regarding the staff. We were bombarded with tasting trays upon stepping foot in the shop. No greeting just "Here! put this in your mouth!" It's a little like when you go into a clothing store and there's a attendant there just to say "hello, how are you?" - it's not genuine; it's an unnatural and often awkward approach. Read your customer, let them look around first then maybe even build some rapport with them before asking if they want to try anything. I felt a like one of the chocolates on the conveyer belt, get in, get tasting and get out.
I am truly sorry that our retail staff were over attentive. It just goes to show that you can't please everyone. Some customers say that we take too long to offer samples etc. You are absolutely correct about trying to read the customer and we do, and unfortunately we don't always get it right.
Loved the samples and being able to see chocolate being made! We visited on a Sunday and it was very quiet.
Thank you for visiting Makana and your kind compliment. Sundays can be a bit quiet, more relaxed if you want to spend time browsing. They are usually completely different from Saturdays which are now manic since the Packhouse Market started two years ago and our Chocolate Cafe opened just last year. Thank you and we hope to see you again soon.
We visited on Sunday morning before we were to go back home. The chocolates here are delicious. We bought the Macadamia butter toffee crunch. My toddler cant stop eating them. Also stoked to see they sell online so we can get some more when we run out.
Will definitely stop by again next time we are up North!
"Yummy yummy yummy!!!" Thank you for your great and much appreciated comments. We totally agree.
Also, "Breaking News", Makana will open a shop in Newmarket in July this year so Aucklanders will not have to wait until they come up north anymore.
Great selection of chocolate, but no so much you can't decide.
Make sure you take the sample of the day.
Thank you very much for your great comments. We are very proud of our confections and of how we make them. It makes it all worthwhile when we get positive feedback. Many thanks again.
